Trump attacks McCain's record as war hero, draws rebuke from GOP presidential field

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s criticism Saturday of fellow party member and Arizona Sen. John McCain for being “captured” during the Vietnam War brought sharp rebuke from others in the GOP field.

“He was a war hero because he was captured,” Trump said at the Family Leadership Summit, in Ames, Iowa. “I like people who weren’t captured.”

Most of the 14 other GOP candidates, including some at the summit, immediately criticized Trump’s remarks.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry tweeted that McCain “is an American hero” and that all U.S. prisoners of war “deserve our nation's highest debt of gratitude” and that Trump’s comments are “disgraceful.”

And, how dare you criticize those who served, when you never wore the uniform?

How dare you criticize when you've never run for President?

Come to think of it, how dare I criticize you for commenting on someone who has never served, when I myself have never commented on someone who has never served?

My husband and I have been talking about one reason the Republicans will lose the next election. The least of them will attack their own when they should be pointing out the failings of their opponents. They should leave Trump alone. The American people can decide whether they agree with what he is saying. It seems to me that the RINO Republicans do not want any kind of truth to shake the stability of the status quo. Therefore, if we elect one of them, nothing much will change. We know that from experience, so, sad to say, if we do not elect someone with new ideas, we might be just as well off to lose.

...”I had a discussion with a guy three to six months ago about Trump. At that time I said I couldn’t support him. I’ve had to come full circle on him.

I’ve been lied to since 1988. The Republican(D) is dead to me.

Trump is getting more street cred with my by the day. Nobody else is stepping it up. Evidently nobody else wants his followers bad enough to compete.

Fine with me. If that’s reality, then I’ll simply have to go for the guy that is the most honest about the issues I care about.”...

AMEN!

Donald stepped in it this time. He shouldn’t criticize someone’s service when he dodged Viet Nam via college & medical deferments.

"He shouldn’t criticize someone’s service when he dodged Viet Nam via college & medical deferments."

I've served and survived 2 tours in Vietnam and have NO PROBLEM supporting Trump were he to be our country's President.

I personally believe he would let the military's leadership run the military and would support their fiscal needs to ensure our country's safety.

The fact the McCain push aggressively for normalization of relations with Vietnam without a full accounting of MIA’s and lost POW’s that weren't returned in 1973 shows clearly that he was comprised during his captivitythat hardly makes him any sort of hero.
McCain also is an enthusiastic promoter of the cheap labor express and pushing the Republicans to surrender to the Democrats in order to get things done in Washington. Trump is a stalking horse for the Clintons but if he's calling out the sell outs in the Republican Party then he is providing a great service.

McCain got captured, if not, we probably would have never heard of him.

Kinda like, the reason that the left is so enamored pf jfk is because he was assassinated, if not for that, he would probably just be remembered as an also a past prez.

“How did you weasel out of military service?”

His draft lotto number was 356. He never got called. Trump also received student deferments to go to college as did many thousands of other young men.

Which Republican Candidates in 2016 did serve in Vietnam?

Of course Hillary did not. Along with the current POTUS. We know W was in the Texas Air National Guard.... Dick Cheney did not serve....

Anyhow...

According to McCain’s, the biggest ISIS supporter in congress, fellow P.O.W.s at the Hanoi Hilton. McCain, who the commies called “The Prince”, was singing like a Canary to them.

Remember McCain in the 1990s fought against opening up our secret P.O.W.s information we had in Vietnam. This is because McCain made 32 films, this is not even debated, that trashed the United States when he was P.O.W. McCain did not want that getting out.

It turns out the North Vietnam only gave us back over 300 P.O.W.s of 1,205. This information was found out in 1993 in a KGB vault that was declassified. McCain did not want that information open up to the public because it would expose him as caving to the other side. In the meanwhile he left good military Americans to be tortured and worked to death by Commies.

Don’t believe me? Look at the video Jim Robins posted in the last 48 hours about McCain. It’s exactly as I wrote above.

McCain is freaking Traitor! Trump is right on McCain!

I feel your pain. The search function is just plain broken. When I see an interesting story on drudge, I immediately search for it here to read the comments and half the time it doesn’t show up.

I do so wish Americans understood what you're saying or cared enough to learn the truth about what is happening to our Constitution and nation, and how we, the voters, are being manipulated to undermine both with our best intentions.

The worst aspect to me is how we are presented with the worst possible two options to choose from each election and how both choices make voters compromise their principles and understanding in order to vote for a lesser evil as the way to "save" ourselves and nation.

Most telling? Out of a nation as large and diverse as ours with plenty of eligible, natural born American citizens to choose from, quite a few of the people officially being pushed to the front of the POTUS line are NOT natural born American citizens.

In the POTUS of America dog and pony show, only native born, pure-bred Americans are eligible to enter.

That's how an American "natural born citizen" is defined (or used to be): Born in the USA, to American citizen parents. A natural born American citizen is a pure-bred, native born American. Nothing else.

To become and American citizen, immigrants have to shed their citizenship clothing and jump into the "Melting Pot" to wash away the old in order to come out a brand new, pure American citizen.

Then, as an American, s/he can pass their American citizenship on to their baby.

Otherwise, until they take their American baptism in the Melting Pot, they're still what they were: citizens of wherever they came here from. That's how it works and always has. You don't put the cart before the horse and you can't pass on what you don't have.

But...we're being fundamentally transformed and rewriting our definitions and then getting US to use the new definitions to officially replace the old ones is how it's being done.

"Natural Born Citizen" has been an easy rewrite so far.

To my shame, I fell for it and ordered the McShame unhappy meal, despite myself, education and past experience.

Soros and the rest of that crew won't get me to violate my oath again.

If we are to have evil, then that's the way it shall be. But I'm not voting for it any more.
(Sorry, Ted. I had such hope, but you've lost me.)

If you think serving in military gives you some kind of impenetrable armor to shield you from treasonous acts, you are a sad case. McCain has never admitted what intelligence he gave to the Cong. And his actions in senate have been close to treason. Take a good look at pictures of him with his cohorts, the Muslim brotherhood gang.

I read it. Doesn’t paint too rosy a picture of McCain does it.

Of the things charged, there are three that interest me the most.

One: He reportedly admitted that he gave the North Crucial secrets. Those secrets are believed to have cost U. S. lives and jeopardized operations.

Two: He reportedly cooperated with the North to create propaganda videos.

Three: McCain did not get the promotions he would have been entitled to.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of the regulations our men are expected to comply with when being held prisoner of war.

For instance, if a POW considers himself to be at risk of dying due to his injuries if he does not get medical treatment, is he required to choose death over negotiating to get treatment?

What are the regulations concerning participation in propaganda videos? A number of our troops did this. Some of them flashed signs to people expected to see the videos.

Lastly, I don’t know of any military punishment leveled at John McCain, but the one thing that seems to be clear (if true), is that the military assessment of his actions was so negative, that they opted not to give him customary promotions.

That’s pretty damning right there (if true).

I’m not fan of McCain. It is clear to me he received preferential treatment many times in his life. At Annapolis, being allowed to attend flight school, during his training, during his flight career (at least twice), and during the Keating scandal (at least twice).

It may look like I’m giving the guy a pass here, but some of this I don’t know exactly what to make of it. To me it looks actionable. No action was taken. What is the take-away for me from that? I know what my instincts tell me, but I am not qualified to state categorically if McCain was a collaborator and traitor or not. I do know what it looks like to me.

So I have opted to keep all this in mind, and address it as I have, saying I have grave misgivings about him being even close to a war hero.

I have seen this information before. Back in 2008 I looked up everything I could find on the guy. It was pretty damning.

Here’s a link to what I found at that time.

It’s the basis for me seeing him as I do, a man who was extremely flawed and should be nowhere near a position of trust.

Didn’t read the thread, so I’m not sure if others caught it or not. I’m sure others must have.

Luntz is clearly not who he tries to portray himself as.

The guy is in-the-tank for the Left, and it allows them to keep their hands clean while he puts out pseudo-interviews (absolute hit squad efforts to...) destroy the candidate(s).

He’s literally a crafty despicable liar and propagandist and nothing else. I despise guys like him.

Further, FoxNews destroys it’s credibilty by utilizing a man like this. He’s been doing it for years. I’ve witnessed antics that should have cost him his job in excess of five years ago.

Reagan as a WWII vet and public service person was well aware that there are/would be persons like McCain cashing in on pseudo patriotism.
