Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump appeared on NBC's "Today" show on Monday morning, saying that illegal immigrants get treated better than many U.S. veterans and repeatedly accusing the hosts of taking his remarks about Sen. John McCain's military service out of context.
Trump called the Department of Veterans Affairs a "scandalous, corrupt organization" and said the media "has done a false number, as usual," reported The Washington Times.
Over the weekend, Trump said that McCain, a Vietnam vet who was captured, tortured and imprisoned for five years, is "not a war hero." Trump went on to say that McCain is considered "a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured."
On the "Today" show, host Matt Lauer read Trump's quote to him and asked if he would repeat it to McCain's face.
"Excuse me, Matt," Trump said. "You're the media and you do the same thing. The next sentence was, 'He is a war hero.' I said that...

Trump has made several statements that I agree with - regarding illegal aliens, McCain, and the treatment of vets. I hope he will bring up voter fraud.

Way to go Donald. Just keep talking about the VA and drop the McCain argument. If you disengage it will die. Truthfully McCain has not done anything for the vets. 30 plus years in the Senate and the vets are still getting screwed.

Local story here last week of a vet trying to be seen/treated at the VA hospital. They would MAIL him notices of his appointments, but only like the day before the appointment, so he would miss each appointment. Then he’d go onto a “less favored” list status for missing appointments. It was clearly a situation designed to frustrate the vets, if not also just hope they keep being postponed from seeing anyone until they give up or die.
Trump has only just begun on subject matter .... don’t forget, he had HIS team working on the birth certificate thing

But the "out of context" quote about McLame sure bagged a lot of RINOs over the week-end.

Is it just me, or did DT carefully plan this controversy?
I see a certain methodical logic to how he does this stuff. He brings up a topic, illegals, vets, etc. in a way intended to mildly insult someone or some sacred cow. The controversy sucks the air out of the room. Then in the follow-up, he makes the point that he wanted to make all along while everyone is listening, something that a large portion of the public agrees with.
Then he goes to the next topic. Building his stature all the while.
If so, this is just an adaptation of an alinskyite tactic. Used to great effect.
When he went running to MSNBC to spew his hate for Trump, did he mention our brave Marines and Sailor who died last week? I didn’t read anything on this.

You know its funny that you said that because Mr. GG2 and I were talking this morning and it seems to us that as we watch all this stuff unfold from Trump’s announcement to today it almost seems like its all been planned out. Trump is very shrewd and I’m sure has hired the smartest strategy guys and opposition people. He may have some juicy stuff to drop on McCain. Would not surprise me.
And you are right. Nobody is talking about anybody but Trump and McCain this week. The other GOP candidates cannot buy a sound bite. Its really hysterical.

A friend of mine was a WSO (back seater) in an F-4 Phantom that was shot down in Viet Nam. He and the pilot were almost captured (A-1s and H-3s saved them from certain capture). By Mister Trump's criterion, he might be likable because he was not captured.
Trump (I suspect in the strongest measure) is Hillary's Perot, and he has fooled some very nice people by saying things we wish the GOP front runners would say.
My worry? That he destroys all the GOP contenders then runs indy, ensuring a Hillary win; (perhaps then you fine folks might agree with me, however)

There is no way Graham, for example, can counter this last claim made by McCain. He’s got them dead to rights, which is interesting in light of the response some of the vets had on the issue over the weekend.
This one statement by Trump is something everyone from the top down in AL and VFW leadership must agree with. Vets have come in dead last to immigrants - for years.
The record is long and distinguished. Graham is likely done as a result.
I’ve been involved with AL. It looks like a conservative organization, but it is there for one big reason - protect veteran benefits from Fedzilla. That is all. No exceptions. That’s even how it started in 1917.
If Trump comes out with a plan on protecting vet bennies and overhauling the VA and VA hospital system, then he can call McCain anything he wants to, because the vets will back the guy with the concrete plan to protect bennies.
Trump’s not an idiot. Bennies spent on vets is worth it. Bennies spent on illegal aliens is gas on an inferno. This is something a guy with McCain’s experience in politics should understand. He couldn’t outfight Obola. What makes him think he’s going to prevail against Trump?
