Donald Trump is soaring over his GOP rivals in a new nationwide Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted amid his controversial comments about Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) “war hero” status.

According to the just-released poll, Trump — with 24 percent support among likely Republican voters — holds a comfortable, double-digit lead over nearest competitor Scott Walker, who captures 13 percent support.

Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, and Sen. Marco Rubio round up the top 5 with 12, 8, and 7 percentage points of support, respectively. Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, sits in sixth place with 5 percentage points.

“At the moment Trump’s political philosophy seems to be a blank canvas that some conservatives are painting with their own dreams without actually researching the positions “

I wonder if Trump will be Hillary’s running mate?

He supported Hillary in the past. He has held liberal views.

I wonder if he is a stocking horse.

Actually I don’t think you get it. As a BUSINESSMAN you say what works for your business interests and donate accordingly based on the party in power, plain and simple. Do we have Mr. Trumps voting record in congress? Nope hasn’t served. How about his state legislature voting record? Nope he never served. He talks from both side based on who is in power and throws his money (HEDGES) on the most likely winners. Look across the spectrum of companies and you will see exactly the same business prowess and patterns. If a CEO is not doing this today he\she doesn’t have the faintest clue on how to manage the business interests within the political landscape and has no business in any position of influence and power.

This is DEFCON 1 for the Washingtonians.

ALL BETS ARE OFF.

They will assassinate him if that’s what it takes to keep him from the nomination.

Wild ride ahead.

That’s right. Cruz is a nice guy but Trump’s the real deal. This is historic and a true read of the people. Trump hit the national stage and the politicians bounced right off.

Wait for even more back room dirty tricks and attempts to discredit and maliciously slander Trump.

if somehow in some alternate universe this clown actually became the nominee . . . well, I can’t even imagine it.

Can you imagine Obama and his crop of festering communists destroying the USA....in some alternate universe?

Denigrating McCain because he was captured was a cheap shot.

Did he?

“But the only way I would vote for him for POTUS is if he put it all down in writing in a legally binding contract.”

I love the mayhem that Trump is causing but I don’t trust him.

So what happens if it’s Trump vs. Hillary or Sanders?

Easy, I write in Ted Cruz. The 3 options you listed aren’t a choice there the same thing in different disguises.

“He also seems to be a lose cannon whose current and very strongly stated political views on issues such as immigration are almost completely opposite of his very strongly stated political views from just a few years ago.”

Why would that matter?

When you’ve made your first billion come back and we’ll talk about it.

Yup. The beauty of having F***--You money is that you get to say whatever you think needs to be said. The usual mendacious whores and scoundrels who infest Washington can't handle it.

You are afraid Trump is playing us like a fiddle ? After what the GOPe has done for 8 years ? They played us like a trombone. Trump has already lost millions in contracts taking up this fight. What has any of the GOPe lost fighting for legal Americans ?

“By that logic we should beg Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg to be our nominee.”

Wouldn’t work as well... Both of them are multinationals.

I am also feeling burned by the GOP which is why I am leery of following anyone who doesn’t have a track record of fighting for us. That is why I support Cruz.

Because I don’t know that I can trust him not to change his views again when he thinks it will suit his purposes.

“1: He couldn’t take the cut in pay
2: In his current life, he can turn off the spotlight when he wants to. As Prez, he could not.
3: In his current world, people do what he says, when he says it. DC is an entrenched do-nothing, backstabbing land and he would hate that..”

1. I doubt he’d close up shop.
2. Obama seems to be able to stay away from the press.
3. Then again he might call them out, naming names. It could apply an awful lot of public pressure.
