Dylann Roof, Charleston Shooting Suspect, Is Expected to Face Federal Hate Crime Charges
New York Times ^ | July 22, 2015 | MATT APUZZO

WASHINGTON — Dylann Roof, the man suspected of killing nine people at a historically black church in Charleston, S.C., last month is expected to face federal hate crime charges, two law enforcement officials said on Wednesday.

Mr. Roof, 21, already faces nine counts of murder in state court and could face the death penalty there. But Justice Department and F.B.I. officials have said the Charleston shooting was so horrific and racially motivated that the federal government must address it.

The Justice Department had also been considering the seldom-used charge of killing someone while obstructing religious freedom, which is eligible for the death penalty. It was not clear if prosecutors decided to seek that charge.

South Carolina does not have a hate crimes law, and federal officials have said they believe that a murder case alone would leave the racial component of the crime unaddressed.

A grand jury was expected to hand up a federal indictment on Wednesday afternoon. It was not immediately clear how that indictment would affect the state prosecution. The Justice Department has the option to keep its case on hold and wait to see how the state case ends before deciding whether to proceed with a second trial. Under federal law, a hate crime does not, by itself, carry a possible death sentence.

Authorities have linked Mr. Roof to a racist Internet manifesto and said he was in contact with white supremacist groups before launching his attack on the Emanuel A.M.E. Church. He was photographed holding a Confederate flag and a handgun.

Perhaps this means he can be sentenced to drawing and quartering.

> Much better would be a 30 day Life sentence.

Turn him loose in Flint or Detroit, MI. No more taxpayer expense. The state won’t even have to execute him, just do the cleanup.

Yet the terrorist who killed five brave men in Tennessee has been declared a “Home Grown Violent Extremist” no mention of it being a hate crime or even terrorism

Has any competent court ever ruled on the constitutionality of “hate crime” laws?

Yep, waste time and Taxpayer money adding a Thought Crime Charge when Prosecuting a Mass Murderer.

That will show him.

Hate Crimes!?

SERIOUSLY?

I’m Shocked, SHOCKED!

Just because some evil man guns down people in church, how can you infer it was hate and not an act of love? Abortion advocates tell us that abortion is an act of love all the time!

“Hate crime” comes under the heading “social justice”, and therefore double jeopardy would not be an issue.

But “social justice” itself has little to do with either justice or actual crimes. Mostly it is a “feel-good” doctrine, inventing a whole new category of victimhood, most of which, astonishingly, was already a subject of crime under existing statutes.

The point of this is the opportunity to grandstand.

Google "Joseph Paul Franklin." Back in the 1970s, he shot and killed a black jogger in Utah because he didn't like the fact that he was jogging with a white woman.

The state wanted to try him for murder and stand him before a firing squad.

The federalistas would have none of that, so they played their trump card and tried him on a hate crime charge. Since the hate crime carried a long prison sentence and not the death penalty, guess what Mr. Franklin did after he got out?

He created more opportunities to wave the "hate crime" banner rather than turning him into worm food as should have been done in the first place.

No, I don’t think so. He will never be in general population. And the powers that be want a show trial (although a regular one with a quick execution would do just fine).

As usual, I disapprove of “hate crime” charges. Try him for murder, convict him, and execute him. I don’t see why anyone would care whether he loved or hated his victims if the result was an unprovoked, premeditated murder.

If someone who hates me, kills me then I'm "deader".

Right?

Actually, it helps with their statistics about this group or that group being "haters" so they can ban the symbols of the group and eventually, the group.

Meanwhile the "Death to America", "Destroy the Great Satan" and "Israel must be wiped off the Map!" crown are now "Our Trustworthy Allies in the Glorious Quest for Peace in the Middle East" (and subquent Nobel Prizes).

Hate Crimes are to normalize “thought’ control and “thought crimes”—all subjective to make unequal justice the “norm” and put power in the hands of Courts and psychologists (pseudo-science).

They are trying to morph us into an irrational Stalin System of subjective laws (State is god)—where the Court can just say you are crazy and lock you away for life or take away freedoms.

It is a Marxist technique for unequal treatment under the law (unconstitutional) and it gives them a powerful tool to normalize the idea of “Thought Crime” so eventually they can just make-up reasons to lock away their enemies or kill them like Stalin did. (They pay for the psych “results” and control what they say). There was a book I read about how the attorneys buy the “specialists”-—and you can ALWAYS find one who will be a sell-out and lie. It is a dangerous, evil system.

It is the slippery slope and it removes Rule of Law (equal under the Law-—some murders are worse than others, as if that matters to the murdered or families). Acts only should be the consideration for punishment in a true Justice System. All crime is “hate” so it really doesn’t matter to discern which is the more evil type of “hate”. It is dumb and a waste of money and time. Stick to Facts-—subjective theories are just for rhetoric and emotions and theater, and actually eliminates true, equal justice.

Naturally. This allows the federal government to rush in if they don’t like the verdict at the state level.
