Ted Cruz: ‘Star Trek’s Captain Kirk was probably a Republican

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz offered some surprisingly strong opinions on the politics of “Star Trek” in an interview published Thursday in The New York Times Magazine, arguing “it is quite likely that Kirk is a Republican and Picard is a Democrat.”

“Let me do a little psychoanalysis,” Cruz says when asked about the fictional space captains from the landmark 1960s television series and its ”Next Generation” follow-up, which aired some 30 years later. “If you look at ‘’Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ it basically split James T. Kirk into two people. Picard was Kirk’s rational side, and William Riker was his passionate side. I prefer a complete captain. To be effective, you need both heart and mind.”

Obama is John Gill.

John Gill renounced his puppet master. Obama never will.

Possibly my favorite DS9 episode.

Picard rode and liked horses-he was shown with horses in a few episodes, and brought out his own saddle to go riding in an episode about thieves who were going to sell dangerous cleaning chemicals for WMD’s.

She was ok, guess it was the spots or whatever they were that dulled the appeal. Thanks for the photo though.

Tasha Yar was prettier to me.

I thought Kira was a better character than Dax.

Both were Republicans... If a Dem piloted the ‘USS Enterprise’, it would crash into Mars...

“Nemesis” was not one of the better ST movies-but not just because they crash landed the Enterprise...

The correct answer to these types of trick questions:

Q: Which starship captain do you prefer?

A: Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

Most Brits with any pretention to class own and ride horses-even my Brit neighbor does-but I don’t know if Stewart has equestrian skills...

I don't remember which episode he said it, but, while talking about his love of horses, iirc, Capt. Picard had one of the best lines:

"Some creatures have the capacity to fill spaces we never knew were empty."
I've always liked that.
