Donald Trump takes aim at Republican rival Scott Walker for Wisconsin record
The Guardian ^ | 7/25/2015 | Jessica Glanza

Donald Trump on Saturday took shots at Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin, the only Republican in a field of 16 who is leading the business mogul in Iowa polls.

Trump has surged in such polls nationwide, during a campaign in which he has caused controversy over immigration and with a widely condemned attack on the Vietnam war record of Senator John McCain.

On Saturday, Trump addressed a rally in Oskaloosa, Iowa from which his campaign had barred the Des Moines Register newspaper, which published a critical editorial about him. At the rally, he repeated several traditionally Democratic talking points in his argument against Walker, citing the governor’s record on infrastructure, education and healthcare among the reasons that he was unfit to be president.

Referring to a Walker supporter’s comment that Trump was a “dumb-dumb”, Trump said: “Today I read this horrible statement from a fundraiser about Trump, and I said, ‘Oh finally, I can attack, finally.”

“Wisconsin’s doing terribly,” Trump said. “First of all, it’s in turmoil, the roads are a disaster.”

He continued: “They projected a $1bn surplus, and it turns out to be a deficit of $2.2bn, and money all over the place, the schools are a disaster, and they’re fighting like crazy because there’s no money for the schools, the hospitals and education is a disaster, and he was totally in support of [controversial education policy] Common Core.”

The $2.2bn deficit cited by Trump actually refers to a “pre-budget estimate” of tax revenue compared with budget requests from Wisconsin state agencies, PolitiFact Wisconsin reported. Walker calculated a $3.6bn deficit when he took office, in order to justify cuts to public education and to limit unions’ bargaining power.

The state agency that calculates the pre-budget estimate found a $2.2bn shortfall in Wisconsin’s most recent budget cycle, (snip)

I do like Walker a lot, love his smackdown of the unions. Hate to see him take heat for what a stupid donor said. Politics I guess.

This guy is one great big elite establishment wrecking ball.
Think I am gonna enjoy the campaign season for a change.

But, the Donald needs to start setting out specifics. Like, building a huge prison in DC to house all the critters his justice dept will convict of corruption charges.

FWIW, Trump has all of the characteristics of a very bright eccentric individual, untethered by politically or socially correct expectations. Many people like that have off-center warped but well formed senses of humor, and they tend to be opinionated. I’d guess his IQ is massive. Calling anyone like that dumb never turns out very well.

No surprise that Trump is using Lefty talking points, that is what Liberals do.

Here come the “fact” checkers. lol

The fact is, Scott’s team is now on the defensive having to waste time and energy responding to Trump allegations. One thing is for sure, Trump pointed out Walker support for common core - Walker will have trouble with that regardless of his recent flip.

Go Trump!

It also looks like The Donald has lost his grip.

Too bad. It’s been fun watching him go after the real villains.

But now he’s attacking the good guys.

Guess we should have expected this from an egomaniac.

Never antagonize the alpha dog. Bad move. It earned nothing for the Walker campaign, and gave Trump the provocation he needed to lower the boom.

Trump is right about the situation in Wisconsin. I have been studying it for months wondering how long the sham was going to continue before somebody blew the lid off.

Trump wants way more government than I do. I like that he won’t let the press define him.

Here he is defining himself - more goverment is his answer.

He has buddied up with his socialist government elite friends before.

Feels like the Twilight Zone around here when people calling themselves conservative are supporting Donald Trump over Walker.

I don’t know the broad situation up there. If there are holes in the official stability of the state, then Walker’s fair game.

I haven’t been as supportive of Walker for president as some others think I should have been. I didn’t care for being lied to about his immigration stance, and that’s a tip-off for me.

If a guy is lying to you, he’s doing it across the board.

I appreciate his stance against the unions and Left up there very much. I’ve praised him on that count.

Please don’t tell me how you’ve whipped the state into shape if the state isn’t in shape. It’s just one more lie.

I’m not particularly happy to see Walker dissected, but folks sure don’t mind going after Trump. What goes around comes around.

I will continue to watch Walker and see what comes of this. It may be a fair attack. We’ll see.

I don’t get the message in these attacks on Walker. Trump wants more spending on the govt programs that Walkers been trying to streamline?

I’m not sure blasting Walker’s record in WI is good campaign strategy even if true. We’ll see how it plays out.

And it should if Walker is as sound as you believe him to be.

Is the state as sound as you thought it was? Has Walker been the boon to the state we have been led to believe.

If so, Trump was wrong, and we should give Walker some slack. If not, then we should give Trump some slack and ask why Walker made too rosy a telling of the state’s condition.

This seems rather reasonable to me.
