If Trump goes third party, then the Republicans will certainly lose the White House in 2016.

COMPARED TO BOB DOLE????

Dole at least gave lip service to pro-life and low taxes. I have no use for Bob Dole. The year I ran for state rep in CT in a district with all Republican mayors, Dole pulled in 26%. He dragged the whole ticket down (I got 32%).

I don’t think Trump has trashed Cruz yet and
that Cruz is angling for Trump support down
the road or at least angling to keep the 3d
party thing a non-issue.

I think you folks THINK you know too much ... history does not always repeat itself. Trump is richer and more savvy than most potential third party candidates even Perot — The Establishment will be deathly afraid of that and will stop their spitting on Trump. If Trump wins the Primaries and gets nominated WALL ST. will come running with big money -— and possibly before it Trump is showing strong towards the 70% mark.

Instant communications exist now - not in the many older examples listed. Insta-Comm is a new phenomenon that change political dynamics in a 24 hour cycle — nothing much is predictable... These other examples the situations cited did not have 7 years of a devil named obama - 7 dreadful years to drive the voters to band together once a leader fully emerges.

Most of what you folks posted is rehashed opinions when we have a radically different situation on our hands — this is a vote for a REPLACEMENT for the awful obama years — and the fact that the Conservative electorate is just not going to listen to the establishment bullshit anymore ... When did a Senator have the courage from the electorate to call his own party’s Senate leader a LIAR? ...Times they are a changing folks — stop with the rehash of all the old stories — we have a UNIQUE situation on our hands — get with the program and quit wringing your hands... Help dream up new tactics.

Donald Trump could announce that if he wins — Cruz would be chosen as his running mate ... This would change the dynamics drastically in Trumps favor — Trump in his own right will also even draw some Democrats and get a bit of the Jewish vote.

At this point it is just as important to beat the ESTABLISHMENT RINOS as it is the Democrats. After all Conservatives could lead the drive to win the House and Senate back for Republicans — that would garner a lot of appreciation for Conservatives from the Establishmentwouldn’t it? /SARC OFF

Trump is not exactly conservative either

Neither is America.

And by that I don't mean that America has gone liberal or progressive, but rather that the largest plurality of Americans are what might be called old-fashioned-Democrat-lite.

Let's admit it: here is where much of America stands on the important issues, in no particular order...

Welfare: should be available, but only for people who really need it.
Jihad: get rid of the "bad" Muslims, keep the "good" Muslims.
Homosexual issues: who cares what you do in your bedroom, and if you want to get married who cares, just don't make religious people have to support it.
Military: keep it big enough to defend ourselves, stop fighting stupid wars that we don't want to win.
Abortion: it should only be available for rape, incest, saving the life of the mother, and when I think I need one, but we shouldn't be able tell a woman what she can't do with her own body.
The debt: stop foreign aid.
Corporations: stop using "slave labor" in third world countries, put Americans back to work--doesn't matter at what, just put 'em back to work.
Immigration: get rid of the "bad" non-citizens, keep the "good" ones.

Anyone see a pattern here? This is essentially what Trump stands for, or at least what is the perception of what Trump stands for. He is by no means a conservative, but "conservative" is an ideology, and Americans in general do not like ideologies. And that is why he is a popular demagogue, in the non-pejorative sense of the term.

No, you aren’t thinking for yourself because Trump has been open borders so why are you not holding him to his previous remarks, that is hypocritical. So if Trump can shift remarks as covered well here, then so can Walker. And all of this versus Cruz who has been able to talk without having accomplishments to point to.

So, you endorse Trump who said illegal immigrants are great people or whatever his words were.

If they nominate Jeb that will be all right with me. I would even prefer Sanders to another Bush.

Simple fact is that the Democrats can guarantee themselves roughly 200 electoral votes and 40% of the popular vote if they nominated Satan himself and didn't spend a dime on GOTV activity. That's their absolute floor. Their voters are used to being herded like sheep and doing exactly as they are told.

There is nothing even close to comparable to those numbers in the GOP, GOPe, Trump or however else you want to define those numbers.

Besides, Cruz looks terrific at this point. At least to me.

lol. Well you and 6 percent of other Americans. Cruz is our Newt of 2016. He will probably be quite a sight during the debates, but he will fizzle out eventually. The thing with Newt was that he at least was able to convince the House and Senate to pass his agenda during leadership. Cruz can’t seem to convince the Senate to pass a renaming of a street. I feel for him because he is a good guy but he is horrible at trying to get votes for his agenda.

“Besides, Cruz looks terrific at this point. At least to me.”

The only issue with Cruz winning anything at the national level is brand-name recognition. I’ve brought up the name several times to typical, uninformed people and they reply, “never heard of him”.

If Trump stays in the race, either as the Republican candidate or as an independent, then Hillary will win.

Hillary will become president if Trump does a Perot.

Trump is #1 in the Republican primary. So why all the third party talk? The only way he will go third party is if the GOPe tries to force him out.

And a big so what. It's not like Republicans help conservatives when in power.

470 days until the 2016 presidential elections seems a tad early to be making this statement, doncha think?

Our country club elitists would then have to try to pick up the conservative vote and do the will of the people not the DC sellout.

Good list, but misses the style points. Romney was for everything on this list, but managed to barely 47% on the real test in November.

He lost big on the style points (likability, "cares about people like me" and all of that other stuff). Once the Enemedia has their six months or so with the electorate (when the finalists are determined), I'm not so sure Trump can do much better.

Trump can appeal to Low-Info voters in ways Romney could never dream of. Low Info voters don’t vote for wet noodles like Romney.

Correct. If Trump runs as an independent, Hillary wins. It would be the Perot Triangulation
