Shocker: Minimum Wage Hikes Gutted Over 700,000 Jobs In 2013
Town Hall ^ | Jul 26, 2015 | Matt Vespa

Are liberals better at economics or are they just more adept at selling ideas that drive purely on emotion? Increasing the minimum wage is a perfect example. Raising it increases the living standards for those who struggle earning such a wage, and those who are against it–Republicans–are just anti-poor cretins who have no heart. The political campaign almost sells itself. Yet, we’re against it not because we hate poor people–that’s unadulterated nonsense. We’re against it because hurts workers, which is something that we’ve been saying ad nauseum, but alas, liberal intransigence and stubbornness on this issue has resulted in over 700,000 jobs being cut over the past couple years.

I’m shocked that people are still trying to do this. Inflation had a way of ameliorating the impact of the situation. But it’s actually deeming certain kinds of work, not cheap, but absolutely worthless.

Intended to raise minimum wage employees above the need for government assistance, it has resulted in employees requesting fewer hours so that they don’t loose government benefits.

RE:”The last min wage increase was 2009, I don’t get it.”

I believe he is talking about state and city minimum wage laws killing jobs,

GWB signed a Pelosi (Dem house and Senate) mminimum wage hike then the economy tanked a year later and Pelosi, Obama, ...all blamed Bush calling it the Bush economy....

While the increase itself was not the main contributor, it hardly makes the case for another one.

Why wouldn’t libtards love this. Fewer jobs means a larger dependent class. Those whose who keep their jobs are happy. Those who lose their jobs due to technology blame the evil business.....and the narrative gets played out in the libtard controlled media

This sums things up in a nutshell.

Liberals say that you “hate” if you don’t agree with the liberal view of an issue.

If you oppose raising the minimum wage, you hate the poor and want them to live in abject poverty.

If you oppose abortion on demand, you hate women, it’s part of whole war on women.

If you oppose illegal alien amnesty, you hate all immigrants, and especially those of a different racial/ethnic background than youself.

If you oppose affirmative action, you are a racist.

If you oppose global warming and carbon credit plans and all that, you hate a clean environment. In fact you want more pollution.

If you oppose homosexual marriage, you hate homosexuals.

The liberal playbook is the same, no matter what the issue. If you oppose the liberal view, you hate someone, you have no heart, you are vicious in your hatred of someone or something. You are cold and cruel.

And then the liberals shut down debate, because how can they debate an issue with someone who is cold and cruel and hateful????

The political campaign almost sells itself.

This is political warfare at its finest. The left has ALWAYS done a far better job of it, too, which leaves the right in perpetual defends mode. Defense, in politics, is the losing side.

That free market thing sure hates liberals, doesn’t it?

I don’t know what you expect when it comes to economics. Labor costs are an important part of the bottom line.

A study published in 1982 in the Journal of Economic Literature showed a direct correlation between the increase in the minimum wage and teen (<20 YO) unemployment, stating that an increase of 10% in the MW caused between 1 to 3% increase in unemployment. A linear extrapolation to a $15 MW (roughly 107% increase) would equate to a range of 11 to 32% increase in teen unemployment. The data for older Americans was inconclusive but showed a lower percentage correlation, potentially due to increased skill, education, and tenure.

Given a current teen unemployment rate of 24%, an increase to the upper range of 32 percent put it at a stagering 56% which is deep into the territory of causing major problems across the country. This would be the casus belli for Americas youth.

RE:”Why wouldn’t libtards love this. Fewer jobs means a larger dependent class. Those whose who keep their jobs are happy. Those who lose their jobs due to technology blame the evil business.....and the narrative gets played out in the libtard controlled media”

Carly Fiorina debated Emily's list's Jess McIntosh Sunday about the Clinton crimes as Sec of State and McIntosh's only reply is that American votes don't care about her criminal activity, that all they care about is what Clinton says the government will do for them, and give them if she is POTUS.

Same as Obama’s scam in 2008 and 2012.

Handouts.

Yes, labor costs are the biggest cost of doing business in many businesses.

People don’t realize that when you run a business, simply paying your hired help is a huge expense, and may be the biggest expense you have. And that any increase in wages, no matter how it may be justified by liberals, will increase costs of doing business.

Another thing people don’t realize is that many businesses run on very narrow profit margins. So that increases in minimum wages, or any other cost of doing business, leads directly to increases in the price of whatever goods or services the business provides. Most businesses can’t just absorb increases in their costs without raising prices.

And if the market for their product is such that they can’t raise prices to cover increased costs, then they will eventually go out of business.

So many liberals seem not to understand some basic business facts such as I have noted here.
