The Real Danger from the GOP’s Latest Mutiny Against John Boehner

If you thought the days of bad blood between House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and rank-and-file House lawmakers were on hold, at least for the summer, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) apparently didn’t get the memo.

Tuesday night, the congressman marked his 56th birthday by filing a resolution in the House to force Boehner from the top leadership post.

The “motion to vacate the chair” is the first time that a Boehner opponent has taken such a step and is a bit of payback from Meadows, a founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and one of 25 conservative rebels who in January voted against Boehner for a third term as Speaker.

Last month House Government and Oversight Reform Chair Mark Chaffetz (R-UT), a Boehner ally, stripped Meadows of subcommittee gavel after the North Carolina lawmaker opposed a vote to give President Obama the power to “fast track” trade agreements.

Conservatives raised an uproar over the punishment, and began openly talking about launching a rebellion against Boehner.

From the article:

The document states Boehner “has endeavored to consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 Members of Congress and the people they represent.”

The resolution rattles off seven accusations against Boehner, including that he is using the legislative calendar to “create crises for the American people, in order to compel members to vote for legislation” and using the “power of the office to punish members who vote according to their conscience instead of the will of the Speaker.”

Bravo Mr. Meadows!!

That would be the difference between a politician and a statesman.

No surprise to me. If you watch his grandstanding in public hearings and then pay attention to what he does when the lights are off. Even worse when being interviewed, he is very adept at deflecting tough questions without directly answering them.

No doubt the writing in the headline to this article was in keeping with the normal practice, written by headline editor rather than the author of the piece The conclusion of the article:

The hostility could spill into town halls across the country with Republican voters who want their leaders in Washington to fight for more firebrand policies and it could deepen schisms within the GOP before lawmakers return in September.
The headline:

The Real Danger from the GOP’s Latest Mutiny Against John Boehner

So the headline writer believes that it is a "real danger" if Republicans want their leaders in Washington to fight for more "firebrand policies"? The real danger is not the latest mutiny but the causes of discontent against John Boehner by the bulk of the party's rank-and-file. We see here a replay in the House of Representatives of the same scenario which recently occurred in the Senate when Ted Cruz stood in the floor of the Senate and accused Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to his face of looking Cruz and every Republican Senator in the eye and lying to them.

The media reacted, inexcusably allegedly conservative pundits like will and Krauthammer not excluded, by decrying the lack of decorum. This article notes:

Republicans will leave Capitol Hill with bruised feelings and suspicions about one another’s loyalty rather than back slaps and best wishes for the extended summer break.

It is past time for preoccupation about decorum and etiquette, it is time to stop treating symptoms and time to stop shooting the messenger.

‘The Fiscal Times” writes nothing but trash. They are liberals trying to pretend to be business savy/friendly.....just like Yahoo Finance. The headline begs one to read about the “real danger”, but the article never discusses what that danger is.

Only read “The Fiscal Times” as part of opposition research.

The GOP is way too dumb to understand that Mark Meadows is actually trying to give the party (what is left) a hand up, and a way back to a viable voting constituency. Most, at least I know I am, are sick of the obnoxious, arrogant, Democrat pandering, self aggrandizing, pompous, attitude of the Congress that was voted in to bring conservative views back to the table. Mark Meadows is a true conservative leader and statesman. Go Meadows!!

"..I hope people in NC don’t turn against Mark.."

This Carolinian won't. I voted for Meadows, and it's nice to see for once I may not regret that vote.

Tillis, not so much.

Tillis is the establishment back that we knew him to be...we screwed the pooch when we let him win the primary.

I emailed little Johnnys buddy Virginia Foxx (NC-5) yesterday and suggested she get behind this move or her a$$ was gonna get primaried....there is already a move afoot here to that end.

Every conservative Rep that Boehner and the leadership have retaliated against should file one of these ‘motion to vacate’ documents each week.

The more they can show that Boehner is losing support, the sooner they can get rid of Boehner as speaker.

Called and e-mailed our congressman (Nugent) yesterday to support Meadows. They said they will get back with us (they always do).
