Things got very awkward today when Chris Matthews asked DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz what the difference was between the modern Democratic Party and Socialism.

That is the first example I have I believe ever seen, of Chris Mathews being that way.

I think it was P.J. O’Rourke that said something to the effect that: ‘Socialism is just Communism being sold by the drink.”
In the same vein the difference between Socialists and Democrats is whether you want that drink straight or with a tiny bit of water.
Debbie and Nazi Pelosey must have had the same parents, and my guess is that they were first cousins as they both have the iQ of pond scum.

I mean, of course, every FReeper would have had her same trouble answering that question, or rather, we wouldn’t have needed to struggle because we would have all said in unison, NONE. There is no difference whatsoever between today’s Democrat party and socialism.
But the fact that the DNC is so wholly unprepared to even THINK of responding to such a question shows that no one in their party has even one tiny bit of muscle. They haven’t been challenged or questioned in decades. They are flabby and weak.
However, Chrissie deserves credit for allowing a tingle to travel from his thigh to his brain this once.

Socialism is communism in progress.
And it will always be socialism because getting to communism is impossible. Those in power will never give up being the Inner Party. They know this and that is one of many of the great lies of socialism.

I get the point but communism is never going to happen as it is defined.
Communism dissolves the ruling party and everyone is equal and nobody is in control. Pure communism works this way.
The ruling socialist inner party folks are never going to stop being the rulers and stop being special with special privileges. They would never let everyone be equal and maybe even curtail what they are doing as elite inner party people. The pigs aren’t going to give up the farmhouse, beds, milk and apples, start doing hard labor, and let all the animals have all their perks too.
The dirty secret is they know this but most of the proles don’t.

I agree again. And I would add:
This is why I have often said that the differences between a Fascist State and a Communist State are *in practice* negligible.
One may choose to describe what is happening in different ways but the bottom line is that both resolve down to totalitarianism.
And this will be (or already is) the end result of the crony capitalist/bureaucratic/political power structure we have here today.
