The trophy is tagged and clearly marked on the outside of the box as to what it is.

People who trophy hunt big game in Africa don’t fly commercial. Just ask Coca Cola Bottling of Atlanta!

What if I wrap my stuffed lion’s head in a confederate flag? Would that make it ok?

It goes through a separate customs and duties and you have to pay some pretty stiff fees.

Not cheap.

I have friends that tell me it can cost as much to bring back a trophy as the hunt itself

It’s not what I want to do with my vacation time but as long as it’s done legally I have no problem with it. This shoot was illegal but it sounds like more than half the law-breaking was done by the local guide.

A prudent hunter would not trust Delta any way. It is better that freight be given to a trusted and capable handler

"I say "f" trophy hunters."

So I assume you support the extermination of those species in poor countries.

Because that is the choice....trophy hunting or extermination through poaching.

Both the hunting preserve and safari protected area are managed like zoos...both areas attracting large dollars for a poor nation. This activity actually helps to preserve the species and improve the economy of the region. A failing economy would mean the end of all these creatures that Americans seem to worship as the locals would be unable to protect and manage the areas and the poor would kill everything.

Also, large mammal natural selection in most parts of Africa has been extinct for sometime now. We determine the correct numbers of predator and pray and where they should live.

The amount of emoting about this topic on FR of all places disturbs me...

I daresay we lost many great FReeper minds in the last few purges and are now being overtaken with emotional arguments vs. rational ones...

I do not trophy hunt, but I do hunt deer, duck & dove and go to the occasional pheasant shoot. But I stand with my fellow hunters, period.

I don't hunt at all because I find it expensive, boring, and time-consuming, plus I prefer the taste of the meat from the grocery store. But I still stand with the hunters, and I certainly don't support extradition to Zimbabwe for anything short of murder (and I'm not sure I'd trust their courts with a murder trial, either.)

How about a rush and a lionskin rug.

Anything can be carried to excess. There is presumably a lion bag limit in Zimbabwe just like there are hunting limits on wildlife here.

Trophy hunters should be limited to only hunting with a dagger. Give the animals a sporting chance.

In Hawaii, feral pigs are hunted with daggers.

I am a real estate agent and more people than not do not like homes that have the trophy stuff mounted on walls and such, so no. A lion skin rug is a no-go.

After the dogs have them pinned, of course.

I don't accept that the options are solely binary.
