Tough Questions to Trump Prompt Fox Fans to Call for Ban on Megyn Kelly

GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his supporters are crying foul over what they consider to be tough treatment by Fox News and in particular Megyn Kelly at Thursday night's debate. They are calling for a ban on Kelly at future GOP showdowns.

For anyone who watched even the first few minutes of the first 2016 Republican presidential candidate debate Thursday night, it was clear that Fox News was out to sandbag Trump. Taking to social media after the debate, it was clear that "The Donald" was far from pleased with the conservative news network.

When the highly anticipated debate of the crowded field of Republican presidential hopefuls began, the first question, asked by the team of Fox News personalities who acted as the evening's moderators, was clearly aimed at one of the ten contenders on stage.

"Is there anyone on stage, and can I see hands, who is unwilling tonight to pledge your support to the eventual nominee of the Republican Party and pledge to not run an independent campaign against that person," asked Fox News' Bret Baier.

The lone hand that went up was that of frontrunner Donald Trump, who is enjoying a double-digit lead in the polls. Trump's move prompted both cheers and jeers from the audience in Cleveland and gave his challengers their first opportunity to jump on the billionaire former TV reality show star.

"Maybe he runs as an independent," said Sen. Rand Paul, who is trailing Trump by 20 points. "He's already hedging his bets."

"That question -- statement was absolutely aimed at me," Trump said during a phone interview on "Fox and Friends" Friday morning, adding "I didn't think it was appropriate, but that's OK."

The second obvious slam to Trump came from Fox's Megyn Kelly whose question was neither about policy nor politics, but about the thrice married businessman's history of calling women he doesn't like "fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals." Kelly further noted an instance on Trump's reality show "The Apprentice" where he alluded to seeing a female contestant on her knees.

I think that perception is due to the loud audience at night, and the dead silence in the afternoon..

Kelly seemed like a middle school brat with a good makeup job and vaseline on her teeth.

Megyn is only doing what her boss tells her to do ... just like a good girl should (heh-heh!)

The question should have been asked in a neutral way, having Trump explain exactly what his treatment of women is in his personal and business life. To start the question with that litany was wrong, and it was to elicit a memorable response. I can't recall that any of the others faced a verbal assault like that.

It's not journalism if the person who asks the question gives the answer they want to hear.

Face it. Trump has been a celebrity for 30 years and only an idiot couldn’t have anticipated that his past was going to bite him. Its going to be even worse next time.

I happen to like tough debate questions because it shows how a candidate can handle a hostile media. Calling for one of them to be banned is no more impressive than Obama sending Helen Thomas into exile for asking a tough question.

That photo does make me hungry.

Only thing the rotten POS is good for. I mute the TV when she's on.

They were not tough questions but bitchy little questions. Little girls think being a bitch is being tough.

Not a Megyn fan by any means, but the question was valid.

Sound bytes of Trump saying demeaning things to and about women would be the first ad out of the box, and the War On Women would be on.

To say, "those things are taken out of context, they were said in fun" while mostly true, does not take away the fact that it would happen. It's pretty much all Democrats do.

That being said, the way the question was posed was unfair, but anyone who doesn't realize that the debate was more about TV ratings and creating media buzz than anything else hasn't been paying attention.

They weren’t “tough” : they were silly and personal. Designed to portray Trump as small and defensive and prevent him from making serious statements on issues or policy.

Naturally, it was a Karl Rove designed event. After all, Fox pays Rove good money for his input.

Megyn will get invites to the top DC cocktail parties now.

Tough questions? How about breathlessly stupid questions. I think her lip was quivering. She clearly had an ax to grind.

The very first question about pledging to support the GOP nominee was aimed straight at Donald. They would never have asked that question if he wasn't there.

If he did pledge to support the GOPe nominee, the GOPe would feel free to play every dirty trick in the book on him.

He's jut not going to greenlight himself.

Before the debate even started, I told my husband that Megyn Kelly would probably ask Trump about his treatment of women. When she did and my husband asked how I knew, I told him it was clear from comments she had made on her show that she doesn’t like him, and she’s commented on the language he uses about women. On the one hand, I want to say “Shame on you, Megyn” for asking an irrelevant question. On the other hand, Trump will get this from the Democrats, so he may as well get some practice answering it.

The takeaway from Fox to Trump is "were gonna treat you like dirt for the GOPe, and we want you to pledge that if we destroy your chances within the GOP, you won't run as an independent."

I can't all but guarantee this will give Trump a big bump in the polls.

And Rosie O'Donnell is a fat, disgusting pig.

The winner here is Trump. He gets all the oxygen. We see he has more guts than the others. And his support goes through the roof.

The look on her face when Trump said “Only Rosie O’Donnell” before she could even finish her “gotcha” question was priceless.
