On Martin Bashir's television program this afternoon, Democratic strategist and MSNBC analyst Karen Finney said that Republicans are supporting Herman Cain because of his race: One of the things about Herman Cain is, I think that he makes that white Republican base of the party feel okay, feel like they are not racist because they can like this guy," Finney said. "I think he giving that base a free pass. And I think they like him because they think he's a black man who knows his place. I know that's harsh, but that's how it sure seems to me."

Kathy Griffin has never been one to shy away from controversy, especially controversy that involves Sarah Palin, even going as far as making weight jokes about Palin’s daughter, Bristol. It was also recently announced that Griffin would be playing a “a middle-aged ‘recent Tea Party candidate and home-schooler — a Sarah Palin type” on the hit show “Glee.” One can imagine that all this might be wearing on Palin and in an interview with Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, Palin let lose saying: “You know Kathy Griffin can do anything to me or say about me, because you know, she’s kind...

So Tina Fey won another award for not being Sarah Palin. Good for Tina Fey. Maybe it will help with her self-esteem issues. I am not saying she is not talented. Just lazy. So here is the script to my latest visit to Xtra Normal Land. Hi readers of the Don Surber blog. I am Tina Fey. Star of a situation comedy and the maker of a hit movie. Just like Penny Marshall. But Tina Fey is not just another Penny Marshall. I won the coveted Mark Twain Award for my political biting satire. I am the Mark Twain of...

Whenever the GOP wins an election, the Democrats and the media always go through predictable stages of recrimination, self-pity and bizarre rationalization. The most amusing of them is when liberals question why they’re so, well, just so darned nice. “If we were to take the gloves off – to fight dirty, like our opponents, we’d win,” liberals tell themselves. Why must we be the Nancy Kerrigan to the Republicans’ Tonya Harding? This, of course, is nonsense. Democrats are original bearers of guns to knife fights. They are the true believers, and their ends justify their means. To liberals, conservatives aren’t...

Via Mediaite, a mundane clip in some ways and a noteworthy one in another. Mundane because (a) this isn’t the first time Behar’s dropped a B-bomb on a prominent conservative woman, natch, and (b) if you needed a reminder of just how shrill and buffoonish she can be, you already got one two weeks ago. What makes it noteworthy is less the clip itself than what it portends for the next 168 hours: We are, after all, now seven short days away from Election Day, which means Refudiation Week has officially begun. And needless to say, as the reality of...

Nicolle Wallace on Bill Maher just admitted that she was no fan of the Tea Party. Now I knew that I was not a fan of hers because of comments she made about Our Sarah, but had no idea she was so openly against the Tea Party. Nicolle laughed hysterically at every vulgar, rude slanderous remark that Maher made about basically ALL the Tea Party candidates. She mocked COD about the first amendment? We all know that COD was only stating the fact that the phrase separation of Church and State was not in the Constitution. Nicolle was just hateful. I...

Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius on Monday downplayed a federal judge's decision allowing Virginia's challenge to healthcare reform to continue, arguing it was merely a procedural move that has no bearing on the underlying issues. "We remain confident that the case is solid," Sebelius told reporters during a phone call on the reform law's effects on Medicare spending. Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, a liberal consumer group, echoed that message Monday, saying the ruling "has no effect on the validity of the health reform law."

A defense lawyer is calling for calm after death threats have been made against teenagers charged in the death of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince, who committed suicide after she was allegedly bullied by schoolmates. "Not to minimize what happened to Phoebe Prince in any way, but translating this into death threats and public harassment has got to stop," says Colin Keefe, who represents Sharon Chanon Velazquez, accused of tormenting Prince, who hanged herself on Jan. 14. "It's gotten way out of control," adds Keefe, who says Velazquez has been driven temporarily from her home.

CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Katie Couric said in an intreview that the mainstream media still has a role to play and that people want coverage with a point of view. From PoynterOnline When Katie Couric accepted the Alfred I. duPont award last week for her series of interviews with former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential campaign, she said, "The much derided MSM -- main stream media -- clearly still has a role in these increasingly partisan times."

Angry, frustrated, troubled, disappointed, disgust, disrespect - words not normally associated with holiday season. However, they were words Katie Couric used to describe where she sees the mood of country right now. Couric, the anchor of the "CBS Evening News," in a live Facebook video chat on Dec. 22, took on illustrating her view of the populace - a not very sunny picture (emphasis added). "I think more distant - I hate to say that, but I think, I think the economic situation in this country, I think, when people are struggling, that sometimes they need a place to vent...

At issue: a young black woman named Heather Ellis cut in line at Wal-Mart three years ago and refused to leave eventually fighting with and assaulting the local police. She turned down a plea bargain because she would not be allowed to sue the city. Now she is facing a "maximum" of 15 years for 2 felony counts of assaulting police officers and resisting arrest. CNN and the Race Baiting Industry have descended on this small town calling it a "town known for it's racism" in their coverage and alleging that the local prosecutor has ties with the Klan. I...

Good satire never dies. While months ago comedian Tina Fey vowed to deep six her celebrated Sarah Palin impersonation, now she says it's likely bound for a resurrection. The Palin wig will soon will soon have to "come out of the closet," she vowed to Harper's Bazaar. The hook? The soon-to-come publication of Palin's quickly written autobiography "Going Rogue." Fey also talked to the fashion magazine about her own famous glasses. She insists she doesn't sport the signature specs all the time. "I don't wear them when I am dressed up, because then I would look like Tootsie," the Emmy-winning...

Tina Fey recently won an Emmy for her uncanny resemblance and venomous impersonation of Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. In accepting her award, Fey was her typical, obloquious self saying, “Mrs. Palin is an inspiration to working mothers everywhere because she bailed on her job right before Fourth of July weekend. You are living my dream. Thank you, Mrs. Palin!” 2008 marked a departure from the memorable, more cordial years of Chevy Chase as a clumsy Gerald Ford or Dana Carvey’s hilarious H.W. Bush: “wouldn’t be prudent.” Fey was downright mean.

Sunday, July 05, 2009 Palin-Basher Liz Trotta: Palin Is Inarticulate and Undereducated... Used Her Looks to Get Ahead-- Maureen Dowd is Smart & Funny (Video) Sick. Liz Trotta, an east coast Palin-hater, attacked Sarah Palin again today. Trotta said Palin Palin has given the media "lots of raw meat" and is "inarticulate and undereducated" and hadn't accomplished anything. Trotta said Palin "brought the attacks on herself." She also agreed that Palin was "wacky and nutty" and only got ahead because of her looks. And, to top it off, Trotta said Maureen Dowd's latest disgusting hit piece on Palin was well...

What would Kate Couric ask Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin if she could interview her again? "I have no idea!" Couric told Usmagazine.com Tuesday at High Voltage's 60th birthday bash in NYC. "If I get the opportunity, I'd be thrilled to talk to her again." Last September, the CBS Evening News anchor conducted an awkward interview with the former vice presidential candidate, pressing Palin to explain why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience. She also asked Palin what newspapers and magazines she reads regularly. ("Um, all of them, any of them," an uncomfortable Palin replied.) Asked about her...

Are you a conservative? Then you're a d***, and there's something wrong with your brain. At least that's what "24" actress and comedienne Janeane Garofalo believes. According to the former Air America radio host, a conservative starts out an “a**hole,” and the politics come later. She asserted, “The reason a person is a conservative republican (sic) is because something is wrong with them...It really is neuroscience.”

Leave him alone. He wrote a book. It is true or untrue, accurately reported or not. If not, this will no doubt be revealed. It is honestly meant and presented, or not. Look to the assertions, argue them, weigh and ponder. That's my first thought. When I finished the book I came out not admiring Mr. McClellan or liking him but, in terms of the larger arguments, believing him.

CNBC's Erin Burnett knows what she likes in a man, though it's not clear she actually likes men as anything more than people who can buy her stuff. She wrote a piece for Men's Health magazine entitled "8 Ways to Impress Me." Her "8 Ways" aren't impressive, they're pretty sad. They pretty much boil down to "give me stuff and stay away." It's one thing to think this way, there are no doubt many people out there who do, it's quite another to tell the world. Here's one example:

President Bush's former chief political strategist writes that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton can be defeated next year, but he argues it won't be easy. In his debut column for the liberal Newsweek magazine, Karl Rove describes Hillary as "hard" and "brittle." Recalling two encounters with the former first lady who seemed agitated by his mentioning of a vanity mirror in her old West Wing office, Rove says Hillary is "tough, persistent and forgets nothing." He also implied that a controversial question asked to Sen. John McCain by a woman in South Carolina ["How do we beat the bitch?"] was not...

US Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has caused an uproar after he laughed when an audience member called Democratic rival Hillary Clinton a "bitch" instead of telling the woman off.At a campaign event on Monday, the woman asked Senator McCain, "How do we beat the bitch?'' Senator McCain laughed along with the crowd as he said, "May I give the translation?'' "That's an excellent question,'' he said."I respect Senator Clinton. I respect anyone who gets the nomination of the Democratic Party.'' Republicans and Democrats slammed John McCain yesterday for not slamming a South Carolina supporter who called Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton a "bitch" to his face. "I think it's a huge mistake for us to show that kind of disrespect to any candidate," said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC). "We can't encourage this kind of behavior. We certainly don't need to get personal." The Clinton camp declined to comment. McCain, a practitioner of "straight talk" on the campaign trail, was caught off guard when a woman asked him at a campaign event, "How do we beat the bitch?" After laughing and covering...

The New York City Council, which drew national headlines when it passed a symbolic citywide ban earlier this year on the use of the so-called n-word, has turned its linguistic (and legislative) lance toward a different slur: bitch. The term is hateful and deeply sexist, said Councilwoman Darlene Mealy of Brooklyn, who has introduced a measure against the word, saying it creates “a paradigm of shame and indignity” for all women. But conversations over the last week indicate that the “b-word” (as it is referred to in the legislation) enjoys a surprisingly strong currency — and even some defenders —...

THE leader of a radical Pakistani mosque was arrested while trying to flee in a woman's burqa as security forces stepped up pressure on a few hundred hardcore followers still holed up inside. Firebrand cleric Abdul Aziz's capture sparked an exodus from Islamabad's Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, with 1,200 male and female students surrendering to the authorities a day after clashes there left 16 people dead. The government of embattled President Pervez Musharraf hailed the capture of the firebrand preacher as a major success, after months of criticism that it was failing to tackle extremism. "After all the things...

MacKay denies saying any such thing. Holland says the foreign minister made the slur while exchanging jeers with the Liberals during a debate on the environment. While the government was being peppered with...

Jane Fonda talks about how she is 'riveted' by faith and why feminism is what Jesus taughtFrom her longtime political activism to her Oscar-winning acting, Jane Fonda has never done anything halfheartedly, and she brings this characteristic intensity to her faith. When she talks about "feeling the presence of the Almighty," her view of Jesus, and the way she prays, her voice wells from deep within her chest. You may know this voice from her films (among dozens of others: Barbarella, Klute, On Golden Pond, and currently in theaters, Monster-in-Law), or from her aerobics videos ("feel the burn!"), or from...

Jane Fonda is to be pitied Special to The Augusta Free Press The only anti-Vietnam War protester that can tick off a Vietnam veteran more than John Kerry is Jane Fonda. In her interview by Leslie Stahl on CBS' "60 Minutes" Sunday, April 3, Jane Fonda characterized such reactions to her as "ill-placed anger." In one respect, she may be correct. It may be "ill-placed anger" neither because her anti-Vietnam War activities deserve praise nor because she makes an exceedingly partial recantation now. It may be "ill-placed anger" simply because of her current irrelevance and because of our moral compunction...

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Go ahead — call state Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles a scurvy wench, a wanton strumpet, a shameless hussy. She probably won’t like it, but she doesn’t want you to be prosecuted for it. The Seattle Democrat is sponsoring a bill to repeal a 1909 state law that makes "slander of a woman" a crime. Kohl-Welles, a women’s studies lecturer at the University of Washington, says the law is a relic of a time when men put women on a pedestal and denied them basic rights. Kohl-Welles said the law almost surely violates the state and federal constitutions....
