Washington (CNN)Donald Trump has a significant lead in the race to win over likely Iowa caucus-goers, according to the first CNN/ORC poll in the state this cycle.
Trump tops the field with 22% and is the candidate seen as best able to handle top issues including the economy, illegal immigration and terrorism. He's most cited as the one with the best chance of winning the general election, and, by a wide margin, as the candidate most likely to change the way things work in Washington.
READ THE POLL RESULTS
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson follows Trump in overall preference with 14%, bumping Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who had held the top spot in most recent public polling in Iowa, down to third place with 9%. Walker is nearly even with a slew of other candidates.
Previous public polls had found Carson with around 10% support, but most were released before last week's debate. A Suffolk University poll of Iowa Republicans released Tuesday found Carson's closing remarks to be the most memorable moment for those who watched the prime time debate.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz follows the top three at 8%, with businesswoman Carly Fiorina and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee both at 7%. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is tied at 5% with senators Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. The rest of the field stands at 3% or less.

CNN POLL: Trump 'significant lead' in Iowa...
Carson moves into second place...
Walker drops to third...
I can think of one person on FR who will not be happy about this!
It's time to get behind this.
you are exactly right! it’s time to get behind this unless Cruz rises dramatically, which is possible, a lot of time.
CNN is skewing polls by asking orcs?
Did they ask them how they felt about meat being back on the menu?
I can think of about 8-10 TDS sufferers who are deeply concerned. They’re so concerned that they’ll be concerned enough to tell us about their concetn.
Sorry, I don’t understand your post. Not being snarky, either. TDS?
Im happy, Walker is a RINO open borders douche, and also threw in on the feminist PC bandwagon for megyn kelly. Go home Scotty.
“Sorry, I dont understand your post. Not being snarky, either. TDS?”
Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers. We have about 8-10 of them posting actively. DT lives in their heads, rent-free 24/7.
They’re very concerned of late. And want to tell us all about their concerns.
I’m not a supporter of Walker although Rush, for several months, has sung his praises and I tend to listen to Rush. My two candidates at the moment are Trump & Cruz. Please, you guys, I need all your pearls of wisdom to make up my mind. I plan to sit home if Jeb is nominated.
Oh, now I understand! I saw TD and thought: does he have Trump’s initials backwards? So, now we have TDS which is the same thing as Palin Derangement Syndrome. Been there, done that. In fact, I noticed little Stephen Hayes on tv yesterday had a little spiral notebook so he could detail all of Trump’s supposed misstatements. Exactly as the media did to Palin back in ‘08. Beware little spiral notebooks. He, also, seemed fond of using “word salad” to describe Trump/Palin’s speech. That means, Trump doesn’t speak condescending, boring Washington gobbledegook.
Hey, has anyone heard from nick?
Things are getting crazier by the day.
On the one hand, Donald Trump is leading his second-place competitor for the Republican presidential nomination, Ben Carson, by 8 points in the Iowa caucuses, which everyone seems to interpret as evidence that Donald Trump is truly the odds-on, inevitable favorite to win the nomination and everyone else should probably go home.
On the other hand, Bernie Sanders is now leading HIS second-place competitor for the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton, by 7 points in the New Hampshire primary, yet everyone continues to act as if Bernie has no chance whatsoever of winning the nomination and Hillary should go on picking out her favorite robe and scepter for her inevitable coronation at next year’s DNC convention.
It seems that to win their party’s nominations, all Bernie Sanders will have to do is continue giving speeches to huge enthusiastic crowds while Hillary continues to fade away, and all Ben Carson will have to do is continue giving his outstanding speeches — the kind he gave in small doses at Thursday’s debate which propelled his poll numbers significantly forward — while Donald Trump continues to alienate individuals and groups across the country until Trump fatigue sets in and his numbers inevitably go south.
...”until Trump fatigue sets in and his numbers inevitably go south”
Could it be CW? LOL!
ORCS have the *vote* ??
When did that happen?
Time for Walker to take a walk. he’s completely lost me and many. And that giveaway with that stadium approval is absolutely disgusting.
He is the lap dog of lap dogs.
Oh, God!
