A Letter to Donald Trump Supporters With One Big Question
The Atlantic ^ | 08/14/2015 | CONOR FRIEDERSDORF

Posted on 08/14/2015 6:20:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Dear Donald Trump Supporters:

You’re fed up. This much I understand. You’re fed up with politicians who say one thing on the campaign trail, like that they’re going to stop illegal immigration, and then do another in Washington; you’re fed up with insiders who rig the system for their benefit at your expense; and you’re fed up with coastal media elites and their insular subculture.

On some level I sympathize. In the last presidential election, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for any of the candidates. I just left it blank. I wanted nothing to do with my awful options.

What I don’t understand is why you think a President Trump would treat us better. If you elect the billionaire, what makes you think that he will use whatever talents that he possesses to address your grievances rather than to benefit himself? After all, he’s a man who has zealously pursued his self-interest all his life.

He’s done so as a developer in New York City, where one must be a connected insider to succeed in real estate. He is himself a member of the media elite: a reality television start who had lucrative relationships with NBC and Univision. When he has a problem with Fox News, he calls Roger Ailes on the phone!

Remember that moment in the Republican debate where he talked about giving money to politicians so that, if he wanted them to do something, they would? Then he was asked, you gave money to Hillary Clinton, so what, exactly, did she do for you? He replied that when he called and told her to come to his wedding, she did. If you were getting married, would you want Hillary Clinton sitting in the front row?

Taking something and making it bigger and etter is what he does.

Now that's a keeper! Taking is exactly the right word.

Casino Reinvestment Development Authority v. Coking
The Abuse of Eminent Domain in Atlantic City

The Institute for Justice successfully defended Vera against the condemnation of her home by a State agency that sought to take her property and transfer it—at a bargain-basement price—to another private individual: Donald Trump. Trump convinced the State agency to use its “eminent domain” power to take Vera’s home so he could construct a limousine parking lot for his customers—hardly a public purpose. And unfortunately, cases in which government agencies act not as protectors of constitutionally guaranteed rights, but instead as agents for powerful, private interests, have become all too common.

Right now, Trump is telling you all the things you want to hear.

I noticed that Trump changes his tone according to his audience.

In Michigan, he talks tough about Ford not building plants in Mexico. Then, Ford announces it will build the trucks in Ohio instead, while they are negotiating with the UAW. Is it possible that Trump got early indications that Ford would cancel the Mexico plant and go in front of that news?

On Mark Levin's show, he talks about a military so strong that nobody would bother us.

Trump talks flat tax on Cavuto, then goes on Hannity and reverses himself to say he favors a progressive tax code.

This man has said something everyone can latch onto, regardless your political thinking.

It is sad to see FReepers swallowing this.

I can see Trump going after the DC bureaucracy hammer and tong. I can see massive firings under Trump. I can see restructuring the Marxists in the upper level of government, the unelected ones that actually rule us, being fired. No other candidate even comes close to being able to pull that off.

Having said that even he would be iffy but at least with him there is hope that would happen.

Ford didn’t cancel the Mexico plants, and the truck production shift was scheduled months if not years ago.

The F-650/750 already started production in Ohio.

LOL! He's been divorced and his exes don't speak ill of him (or they would be front and center on every "news" show) - obviously can't trust him.

He's a very successful business man and those who work/worked for him mostly speak well of how he treats his subordinates - obviously can't trust him.

Some people are so obsessed that they will choose Left-Wing rule rather than actually take actions to help the nation recover - it's so much more fun to whine about what's wrong and to make up stuff if the whining seems baseless - even to the whiners.

He currently can’t get to the top because apparently some conservatives, like some FReepers, are smitten with the Kim Kardashian of politics

And what, exactly, has Donald Trump ever WON in the political world? And I’d say that whole McConnell thing worked out just fine...I’ll let you know for sure the next time McC is up for reelection as leader

Haven’t contribute one penny to Trump and am not defending him from his many attackers, of which I am not one. He’s doing well on his own.

Trump is not bad-mouthing either Cruz or Palin and for that I am grateful and won’t bad-mouth him here on FR or anywhere until and unless DT does.

The nomination is a year away. The election is MORE than a year away. Things happen in that amount of time.

Try to enjoy this Trump performance and not worry as much about him?

Trump represents an early, bold move in proposals to counter some of the stuff that the Obama regime has laid on America. A full cure for it, no. But it would be almost infinitely friendlier for conservative follow on. Trump isn’t jumping harshly down the throat of right wingers like he is left wingers; you can see which he respects more.

DT's personalizing each campaign stop is what EVERY WISE PUBLIC PERFORMER WILL do.

Swallowing what? That Trump is deflecting the media away from my favorite candidate who I still hope will win?

You do not give some of us few remaining FReepers much credit. Is it possible that one can support Ted Cruz 100%, not be railing against Trump, and still remain a conservative FReeper. You betcha!

Yes, this is true.

A question for you, Conor:

Why should I keep voting for them, listening to them, or subscribing to their sites, papers, ideals, etc.?

Why?

They've already PLAYED me. I'm tired of it.

Things HAVE to change.

It may not be the best deal, but the more I THINK about it (and I suggest you THINK, too), the more I realize Trump is that change.

I am still for Cruz until or unless he doesn't make it by the time I vote in my primary, but if it's all the rest versus Donald, and Cruz is out, I'm voting Trump!

Deputy: Well, let's go. He ain't hittin' nothin'.

Sheriff Langston: You idiot, he's hit everything he's aimed at!
