Jeb Bush: Birthright citizenship is "a constitutional right"
CBS News ^ | 8/18/15 | REBECCA KAPLAN

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that birthright citizenship is a "constitutional right," casting doubt on fellow 2016 candidate Donald Trump's plan to do away with it.

"That's a constitutional right," Bush told CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett during an interview in South Carolina, where he is campaigning. "Mr. Trump can say he's for this because people are frustrated that it's abused. We ought to fix the problem rather than take away rights that are constitutionally endowed."

Speaking to reporters later, he added, "I don't support revoking it."

Maybe so.

But when we deport the parents and they leave the child behind — WE won’t be the ones breaking up the family.

They will.

If Obama can change laws with his phone and pen, Trump can do the same.

It’s how the laws are enforced that matters. The actual laws, as we have found out under Obama, are irrelevant.

The USSC can also be stacked. The number of justices is not set in stone. 5 new Trump justices could ‘evolve’ on many issues and interpretations in a conservative manner.

Jeb Bush has the right not to be President and it looks like he’s exercising that right!

The 14th amendment was intended to give former slaves their citizenship, not to give the children of invading barbarians citizenship. And the “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” clause is the means to winnow them out.

14th Amendment history seems to indicate that the Citizenship Clause was never intended to benefit illegal aliens nor legal foreign visitors temporarily present in the United States.

The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the U.S.-born children of permanent resident aliens are covered by the Citizenship Clause, but the Court has never decided whether the same rule applies to the children of aliens whose presence in the United States is temporary or illegal.

Some eminent scholars and jurists have concluded that it is within the power of Congress to define the scope of the Citizenship Clause through legislation and that birthright citizenship for the children of temporary visitors and illegal aliens could likely be abolished by statute without amending the Constitution.

rather than take away rights that are constitutionally endowed."

Statements like that should be a good enough reason to disqualify anyone from holding an office that will require them to take a vow to "uphold, protect and defend" a document they have no comprehension of.

The Constitution of The United States of America does not bestow or endow any rights. It clearly delineates what rights, which are bestowed by our Creator, that government may not infringe or violate.
