Agree. But the first thing that needs to be done is for Congress to pass a law ending birthright citizenship. Steve King currently has a bill to do that.

Almost every year for more than a decade, there have been bills to end birthright citizenship. If the opponents of ending it claim that it can only be done by constitutional amendment, then why is there a bill every year to end it. We all know that the courts have never litigated the matter and that it will have to be tested in the courts. But you can't get to that step without passing a bill in Congress.

Many legal scholars believe that a constitutional amendment will not be needed given the circumstances surrounding the 14th amendment. The idea that birthright citizenship is some sacred right is nonsense. There are only two developed countries in the world that still have it: the US and Canada.

Repeal the 14th

Good idea. Or modify it to make it say "born to US citizens". This business of making children (of anyone not given citizenship by INS) born in the USofA automatic citizenship is just plain wrong. There is no reason whatsoever that illegal immigrants can't take their "US citizen" children home with them...there are thousands of people who have duel-citizenship and live in different countries.

The ‘anchor baby ‘ scam has become the worst , most dangerous bending and subversion of the Constitution , in the history of the document . NO OTHER COUNTRY ON EARTH ALLOWS FOR THIS ; that by virtue of the delivery from the birth canal of the foreign , non-U.S. citizen mother , does the child automatically obtain the citizenship of the country in which the delivery occurs . NO WHERE . And it should not occur here either . Amend or Repeal the 14th Amendment ! You own what you earn and you do not earn anything merely by sneaking in to our country illegally and giving birth here . That child should hold the citizenship of the alien parents that have birthed it , and should inherit NO RIGHTS of U.S. Citizenship .

Agreed! Maybe one day, we’ll have some representatives who will grow some cojones and deal with this for those of us who pay their salary. I’m tired of them listening to the needs of those who come here illegally instead of those who are legal US citizens and can vote!
