On August 15th, civil rights leader Julian Bond passed away following a brief illness at the age of 75.

But there was a time when Julian Bond could laugh at himself, as he did when he hosted Saturday Night Live in April 1977. In particular, there was a skit with him and Garrett Morris doing a public affairs show called “Black Perspectives” in which they discuss IQ tests. I have posted a video of part of the skit above, but it doesn’t include most of the exchange. Here is the gist of it:

Bond was absolutely deadpan in that skit. I also remember him being in another skit called “Bad Cinema” hosted by Dan Aykroyd playing Leonard Pinth-Garnell, which was probably his most underrated character.

Julian Bond was done in by drugs, specifically cocaine. It destroyed his marriage/family and led to his rejection for the office of Congressman from Atlanta. (John Lewis still has that job.)

Can’t stand the guy. Glad I don’t have to see his smug face anymore on TV. Doesn’t mean I wanted him to die....just to go away.

But if all you knew about him is what has been written in the last 10 days you would think he was the black messiah.

Bond could have “had it all. He could have been a contender” but he let his leftism and anti-white bias consume him.
Good riddance! I miss a real decent man, Whitney Young, the late leader of the Urban League. He was and still is so badly needed to bring Black Americans out of the liberal prison.

When I was a girl it looked like Julian Bond was going to be a political star. Some people even thought he could make it to VP then he let that cocaine fool him into thinkng he was ten feet tall and bullet proof.
Yet another leftist who has left. What does it matter now anyway?
Yeah, in high school my liberal white political science teacher dragged us all to a speech Julian Bond gave at the local community college. Then Bond crashed and burned. What a waste.
