Thousands of people are expected to stream into an events center in Dubuque, Iowa, on the banks of the Mississippi River on Tuesday to see Donald Trump.
When they do, his presidential campaign will be waiting, looking to convert casual gawkers into hardcore supporters who will cast votes for the billionaire presidential candidate in the Iowa caucuses next year.
The Republican front-runner's surging campaign is largely viewed as powered by his personal celebrity and his persistent presence on television. But there's another political upside to being one of the most famous men in America: You don't have to go knocking door-to-door to find voters. They come to you.
When those voters enter the Grand River Center on Tuesday evening, they will immediately be diverted to tables where Trump's staff will recruit them to be county precinct captains, organizers, and volunteers. It's a huge competitive advantage in a presidential race in which other Republican candidates at times struggle to attract crowds in the hundreds.
It's another reason, beyond strong poll numbers, that Trump's candidacy is being viewed with increasing seriousness both inside and outside Iowa, which holds one of the earliest nominating contests in 2016.
"I've never seen anything like it," said Chuck Laudner, Trump's top organizer in Iowa, as he walked the event space with Reuters days prior to the event. "He's drawing crowds that most candidates only get in the weeks before the general election."

Completely agree, Although Trumps is a bit of an unknown he at least is speaking the language that we all used to speak.
Bush, Kasich and Heidi Cruz all have connections to major banks.

I truly believe many conservatives really live in a dream world ... They have no idea how bad things really are. Sometimes you just need a strong quick fix to keep from going completely off the rails.
Trump, whatever you think of him personally, is the strong fix. LAST person who would ever want to see this country fail... Failure is his worst nightmare. I personally do not care what he does in his bedroom, who he is married to, what he’s done in the past. None of that affects me personally. What he will do for this country, however, will effect me, my family, and my grandkids for years to come.
Obama and his ilk, on the other hand....
Populism throws the ball back to “We The People.” Who just happen to be named as responsible parties at the beginning of the US constitution.
And truly under God, there doesn’t seem to be any other honest way to do this. If the people want to get sloppy and enshrine immorality in the halls of government, God will sadly grant them their wish. If, however, they really don’t want that, and they want to see God honored again, God will (after putting them through a fight) grant them that wish, gladly.
My brother joined a church and kept sending business to church members, and kept getting ripped off. He left that church and did business with people whose business WAS business and found ideology and industry don’t mix.
We’ve got a lot of candidates who might do well at a potato salad church social but only one that can organize survivors in a lifeboat. Let’s get real.
I have a cautious optimism that as Trump continues to get advice from the ilk of Sessions and Cruz, he will discover that the conservative approach to policy is more America-friendly than the leftist approach. Trump’s behavior currently seems to say (to this observer) that he is leftist by background and inertia, not by consideration or even by passion. Notice that it isn’t leftist ideas that he is trying to energetically press upon America. That kind of problem could much more easily see correction than a dogmatic leftism.
It isn’t a matter of trusting Trump, even. It’s a matter of trusting what God has done and can do.
That was very, very sad. This sounds like an honesty problem, not even a competence problem. That church probably had worse troubles.

Donald Trump could give a hoot about that garbage .... He’s all about deals ... Winning them, negotiating them, and I do truly believe he wants to revive this ailing situation were in. There is no doubt he is a talented individual. Hoping the country is not too stupid to pass up this opportunity.
You know those high-paying consultants all want to be on the winning gig, and they have absolutely no scruple backstabbing.

Unfortunately Gaffer, unless there’s a sea change in the polling your best bet will be that Trump puts Cruz on the ticket! I agree with you that Cruz would make a fine president, but his only path to the White House is likely to be through Trump.

No reason Cruz can’t be VP, President, and then go to SCOTUS.
Wish that were true but I believe it’s not been done possibly because of a legal statute. Will have to look into that. He certainly could not appoint himself to the bench while he served as president.
Even I realize that polling today and polling to come representing the thoughts and feelings of what those polls SHOULD represent will change. We’ve barely finished the first Republican Debate and Hillary aside, there is a full 15 months until voting time.
As much as I’d like to see the establishment Republican machine collapse at this point, it won’t happen.
We can’t be like Cartman and freeze ourselves so we don’t have to endure the wait for the Wii....

Yes. And I’ve found no ruling after his service that would make it impossible to repeat. Just have to elect a republican president to make the appointment
Its a Trumpnado-—He was underated and dismissed. I recall an old speech Pat Buchannan gave, “The discarded stone will be the keystone of the new arch of the restored republic,” I believe he can do it-—they will try any means, any lie, and rumor to stop him and make him the clown they thought he was. They forget he may well be brash but he isn’t dumb. You can not be a success and be stupid. He’s also a scrapper—poke him and he will slug you back. You don’t pull the cape from Superman and try to rip the mask from Batman.
Taft had previously served in the judicial system. Including the appellant court (one step down from SC) He accepted Teddy Roosevelt’s encouragement to follow him as President where he only served one term. As president he accomplished much often stepping on toes of his colleagues
He then returned to the judicial side of government when appointed to the place he originally aspired.
