What to Make of Trump Fans’ Remarkable Cognitive Dissonance?
National Review Online ^ | August 26,2015 | GEORGE WILL

Every sulfurous belch from the molten interior of the volcanic Trump phenomenon injures the chances of a Republican presidency. After Donald Trump finishes plastering a snarling face on conservatism, any Republican nominee will face a dauntingly steep climb to reach even the paltry numbers that doomed Mitt Romney.

It is perhaps quixotic to try to distract Trump’s supporters with facts, which their leader, who is no stickler for dignity, considers beneath him. Still, consider these:

The white percentage of the electorate has been shrinking for decades and will be about two points smaller in 2016 than in 2012. In 2008, Barack Obama became the first president

This is what happens when you try to fit white, non democrats into a single profile. We have sat by silently, while the elected leaders have lied and betrayed us time after time. The camel’s back has finally been broken. The Silent Majority is now awake and making its self known.

That’s the beauty, I’m not a conservative, I am a Republican. The powers that be have succeeded in labeling all Republicans as conservatives. WE are not.

Every sulfurous belch

Wow. What an awesome command of the English language. I think he should get invited to all the Washington DC cocktail parties. He will add so much entertainment to the venue.

When did Trump say his goal was to put a Republican in the White House?

At what point since the Republicans took over both houses in Congress has the Republicans succeeded in accomplishing anything they promised in the election cycle?

I don’t think it is my goal to put a Republican in the White House.

We need a house cleaner. An ass kicker. Someone willing to fire mass amounts of bureaucrat dead wood in the stroke of a pen.

George, we all know your livelihood and future depend on that not-so-vocal loyal opposition to Democrats while still trying to convince people you are a conservative of sorts.

You’re on Fox and you write for a liberal rag I wouldn’t wipe my butt with, but hey, you speak real good and use big words and have a bow tie. We just oughta listen to you !

You decry those suffering out here in the American you’ve never seen as having cognitive dissonance. You tell us all these illegal Mexicans we let in here (and those Obama are cramming in here) are having babies and they are shifting the demographics to where our opinions don’t or won’t count for sh!t. Then how come you and your DC butt boys and Fox panelist pals are on TV all the time talking about Trump and what a danger he is?

The real truth, George, is that you don’t know sh!t about drive-by America (you know, that which you take pot shots at all the time). You could give a crap at how the GOPe, Obama or virtually any part of this government has screwed us out here in Driveby. Pissed on us, robbed us of our money, our jobs, our futures. What the hell you care you pompous asshole? If I ever see you face-to-face, I’ll deck your ass.

There are large numbers of poor people who have no problem voting for a rich guy. Especially someone like Trump that shows off all his bling.

There are lots of poor Black people. They seem to enjoy it when they see that their guy is golfing, vacationing on Nantucket, etc. These same poor Black people might love to see a rich guy vamping up the Whitehouse cuz it's his crib.

Of all the candidates, even Democrat, running for president there's a good chance that Trump would get the majority of the Black vote. He's populist, he's outspoken, he isn't really associated with either party and their failures to end Black unemployment.

So even if Trump loses some of the Hispanic vote, he may very well get a huge chunk of the Black vote.

And I am not a republican, I am a conservative. Not sure if I am a right-wing conservative, social conservative, fiscal conservative, fundamentalist conservative, extremist conservative, or just a garden-variety run-of-the-mill conservative. But I know I am not a liberal.

Does anyone here on FR ever correspond with Curious George? If so, we should make him post this quote for a year after Trump wins the presidency. Make a bet with him...see if he'll put his money where his mouth is!

George what should we make of the Media’s and the professional political class’s remarkable cognitive dissonance on the current reality? You fail to realize that this is not actually about Trump. It is about you and your fellow travelers George.

The people have given up on playing your rigged game of Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football. So now we are going to shove down your throat a candidate you cannot co-opt, dismiss or marginalize.

Buck up little camper, and remember you earned this.

With love,

We the People.

GOP-e would do well to look inward for a change, but that will never happen because the omnipotent political class is NEVER wrong. GOP establishment weenies are getting what they deserve.

The white percentage of the electorate has been shrinking for decades and will be about two points smaller in 2016 than in 2012. In 2008, Barack Obama became the first president elected while losing the white vote by double digits. In 2012, Hispanics, the nation’s largest minority, were for the first time a double-digit (10 percent) portion of the electorate.

The solution to losing elections because of the “browning of America” is to make it more brown? To become exactly like the Neo-Communists and tax and spend on benefits to the point where people have no need to work? What is the plan Repuklicans? WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR? You HATE Ted Cruz, you HATE Rand Paul, you are and always have been embarrassed of Ronald Reagan. Someone please tell me what the R’s stand for with their deeds, not their words.

Sounds like George will is experiencing a state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes in regard to having someone he disdains in the lead. How can this be, it makes no sense to his well educated conservative mind.

Trump assumes a zero-sum society, where one person’s job is another’s loss. Hence his rage against other nations’ “stealing” jobs — “our” jobs.

Must be nice to live in a bubble in DC. Take a look at the Craigslist Resume section in any city. Extremely sad. Guys in their 40s and 50s, VETS begging for any job.

I am a 6 year naval veteran that just retired with an honorable discharge, and I am looking for full time year round work, m-f.

I will do small jobs, and part time to get by right now, I live in boston so I am looking for work in the boston area. Thank you.
