Yes, ridiculous cause it prematurely changes all the deductable amounts on homeowner policies. Normal property damage kicks into high-wind/named storm damages.

Hey, I gotta run now and call 1-800-OBAMA-SAVES and buy my hurricane coverage policy. Naw, with Obama-Magic I can wait until after the tree falls on my house!

Yep, lining up for the money.

Dig deep taxpayers to replace the mansions on the beach and the sand, do not forget the sand that has to be replaced.

I think all the 10th-anniversary documentaries on Katrina have something to do with it.

Yep, typical over-compensation.

When we were youngsters, we thought hurricanes were so much fun. We got to miss school, stay up all night if it passed in the night, hurricane parties, eating food and snacks my folks wouldn’t have normally bought. And the very best was going out to the beach after the rain and finding all sorts of things that washed up. Then I grew up, became a home owner, and storms were never “fun” again. Didn’t wish for them to come, like we did when we were kids, we wished for them to go away or at least bypass our area.

Same here (born in Key West now in Central Florida). Walking the beaches immediately after the storm is always an adventure, particularly between Cocoa Beach and Ft. Pierce since gold coins regularly wash up (unfortunately I've never found one)!

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Better safe than sorry.........I remember some guy named Nagin who regretted not issuing a SOE until it was too late.

Yep. It’s all about politics and hysteria. There’s no need to declare a state of emergency for every county in the state for a rain storm that’s still days away. Areas that are vulnerable to flooding should make preparations and keep an eye on flood watches and warnings from the weather service like they’ve always done. If flooding does come then declare a state of emergency for those counties affected.

This is all I could find at the weather service:
...RIVER FLOOD IMPACT... MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING ON SEVERAL RIVERS ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA. ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN MAY AGGRAVATE FLOODING. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG RIVERS OR FASTER FLOWING STREAMS SHOULD REMAIN AWARE OF WATER LEVELS AND BE READY TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND SHOULD FLOODING BE OBSERVED.
How can there be an emergency if no watches or warnings have been issued yet? Like I said, ridiculous. It's all about politics and hysteria.

A tropical storm? However, with heavy rains, flooding is a factor since the oceans have risen, what? 0.00001% if that. Still low-lying areas are prone to flooding from torrential rain fall. I'd rather the Governor take early actions than waiting around like Blanco and Mayor Nagin did with Katrina.

The libs and crybabies still blame Bush. The facts show that Bush formally (in writing) asked Governor Blanco to formally request fedgov FEMA assistance 2 days in advance, which is law. She didn't; Nagin sat on his ass; and the suburbs were devastated beyond repair. Can't wait to see the cable special of Katrina 20 year anniversary. I wonder which way it will slant?

Keep in mind that the Mississippi coast got hit just as hard, but Governor Barbour? did a lot of good things to prepare and then rebuild.

No, no, that's not how the Øbama "pre-existing" game works. You wait until after the storm hits, then buy the insurance, then file a claim.

I thought a “state of emergency” was declared after the “hurricane” hits shore. This isn’t even a hurricane.

It’s like California declaring a “state of emergency” in anticipation of the “big one” which could occur sometime this century.
