It’s supposed to become a hurricane as it approaches Florida over open waters.

I think all the 10th-anniversary documentaries on Katrina have something to do with it.

I think the Governor is just being very cautious. It may still develop into a Cat 1 if it makes landfall. Rain and flooding are going to be a big problem even if it remains a TS.

The ground is pretty saturated in my area from the rain we've already had the past couple weeks.

I don't think the federal funds kick in unless it's declared a disaster area. However the state of emergency does let him activate the National Guard.

Yep, lining up for the money.

Dig deep taxpayers to replace the mansions on the beach and the sand, do not forget the sand that has to be replaced.

Yes and for other bureaucratic reasons as well. I work for a municipal utility. There’s a lot of things we can’t even start to do until the emergency has been declared.

After the disaster of New Orleans, nobody is taking risks. I don’t blame them at all. It is better to overreact then not react at all the entire government looked like fools with New orleans.

The lack of hurricanes over the last few years has left Florida without any federal funds for “emergencies””.
