Donald Trump’s polling no longer looks like a bubble set to burst
WaPo ^ | August 28 at 1:50 PM | Philip Bump

We noted early this month that Donald Trump's lead in the polling emerged quickly and ferociously — but that it was hardly unprecedented. In the 2012 cycle, both Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich saw similar surges into the lead, only to watch those leads recede just as rapidly a few weeks later. When we looked at this a few weeks ago, the comparison looked like this:

Trump, like Perry and Gingrich, topped out at a bit above a 10-percentage-point lead. But then that lead held.

Here's what that graph looks like now:

We've increased the scale, because we wanted to add another 2012 polling surge into the mix: The final surge that gave Mitt Romney the nomination.

You elect someone who holds your values and will put in place the policies you want.

I would expect a little more wisdom from a Jedi. That kind of rigid thinking gets you candidates like Todd Akin, candidates that don't actually get elected.

Cruz needs to be VP and Jeff Sessions needs to be majority leader. If the GOP held congress, we’d be cooking with gas.

Of course 90% of Cruz’ superpac donors are large donors. Which begs the question what he will have to do to pay them back.

Easy just SAY NO.. I won’t do it.. you know like he has already done in TEXAS.. and to Mitch “the snitch” McConnell..

you need to get out more..

No one can predict electability. No one thought Obama would get elected. We were promised Romney was the most electable, and he failed.

If I had a crystal ball, I’d eliminate any candidate who couldn’t get elected. But since I don’t, I’ll vote for the most conservative one and fight for him.

As it stands, you are saying your subjective opinion is how you measure objective electability.

Electabilty is PROPHECY... I test prophets.. Are you a prophet?.

Haven’t found one yet.. so far your batting zero..
But no doubt you’ll be saying you were for Ted Cruz all the times AFTER HE WINS..

Trump will self-destruct... causeing many to tear their clothing and throw dust into the air...
as I laugh..

No one can predict electability. No one thought Obama would get elected.

I knew John McCain was going to lose and I knew that Obama was going to win. I absolutely predicted that disaster.

But since I don’t, I’ll vote for the most conservative one and fight for him.

Like Todd Akin?

re>Lots of liberal billionaires have accomplished a lot. Mark Zuckerberg for one. Would you want to elect him based on his accomplishments?

If I was a liberal yes. MY Logic? Your logic says to keep going with losers. I like Cruz but he cannot get the job done.

I was in NYC over the past week. Waiting at a bus stop @ 34th Street, a totally stereotypical NYer, out of nowhere, asked me what I thought of Trump! I told him that anyone who pi$$ed off both Rs and Ds was OK in my book! OMG! He went on, and on, and on .. about the “clown in there now,” and how we need someone who just tells it like it is. The Donald has really created a stir. And I’m enjoying the heck out of it.

Cruz’s website boasts for pages how close he and his wife are with the BUSHs? Again it is void of accomplishments.

Did you predict what would happen to Akin too?

I correctly predicted Romney would lose. But I predict Cruz is more electable than Trump.

I would like to see Cruz in a SCOTUS position where he can stay till his last day on this earth.

"Saying Cruz never accomplished anything.. is a statement made by MORONS.. that are Proud of being a moron..

And know ZERO (or want to know) anything about Ted Cruz..

But they indeed, so far, have a right to be a moron..

One of things that makes America great.."

BINGO! I heartily concur!

I like that. Sessions could get elected and he would get stuff done, especially on immigration. Probably put the brakes on all all the global warming nonsense as well.

Obama was one of the most “privately” unsuccessful presidential candidates of all time (community organizer who coasted through life on affirmative action credits). Yet he got elected and has gotten more liberal policies put in place than any president in history, including the Obamacare health care takeover, Dodd-Frank, pulling all our troops out of Iraq, putting gays in the military, turning NASA into a “Muslim outreach” center, just about completing his plan to help his ally Iran get nuclear weapons, and appointing far-left justices that helped create the “constitutional right” of same-sex marriage. He also defeated one of the most inevitable frontrunners ever in his primary and possibly even successfully schemed to take her out again this time.

So why can’t a “privately” unsuccessful conservative be just as successful putting conservative policies into place as president? Nothing prepares you better to be a successful elected official than having previously gotten elected and holding office as an elected official.

Shouldn’t that be ‘horsepipe’ instead of “hosepipe”. You constant trickle of unsubstantiated anti-Trump posts more closely resembles what comes out of a ‘horsepipe’ (manure), rather than what comes out of a ‘hosepipe’ (nice clear water).. Thanks for the inspiration!

I LOVE Ted Cruz (in a very hetero way). I would love to see him as President or Supreme Court Justice one day. Right now I don’t think he has the juice. I Trump is somehow removed from the equation Cruz is the only real choice out there, with the exception of Dr. Carson, who, unfortunenately, has neither the experience, money, or pizzaz to get elected. Trump/Cruz or Trump/Carson.

As soon as I heard his comments, yes. I remember being livid. I also recall that my FR posting history refelects that.

But I predict Cruz is more electable than Trump.

explain trumps crowds and polling numbers then. Trump isn't as conservative as Cruz. I'll give you that. And that complicates the primary election for him but it makes the general election easier.

We can't go it alone and there are battles that we should not fight during the Presidential election. There is a proper time, place, and manner for every battle. As such, battles must be chosen wisely.
