'Who needs this?' Police recruits abandon dream amid anti-cop climate

Police departments face a recruiting shortage amid a growing anti-cop mood that some fear has taken the pride out of peacekeeping and put targets on the backs of the men and women in blue.

Open calls for the killing of police have been followed by assassinations, including last week's murder in Texas of a Harris County sheriff's deputy. Instead of dialing back the incendiary rhetoric, groups including "Black Lives Matter" have instead doubled down at demonstrations with chants of "Pigs in a blanket, fry me like bacon." Public safety officials fear the net effect has been to demonize police, and diminish the job.

"It's a lot harder to sell now," Jeff Roorda, business manager of the St. Louis Police Officers Association and former state representative, told FoxNews.com. "This is a very real phenomenon."

"You no longer just have to worry about your life while in uniform," he said. "Now you have to be worried about the well-being of your family," he said.

Knowing police face public scorn or career-ending legal battles even if they acted properly has convinced many prospective cops to abandon their dreams of patrolling America's streets.

"I saw all this anti-cop propaganda and I was like, 'Who needs this?'” said Antonio, a New Yorker who asked that only his first name be used. The 32-year-old had applied and been accepted into the NYPD academy, but withdrew his candidacy amid the cop-bashing climate sweeping the country.

Even top police brass understand why the shield has lost its shine.

"Right now, policing is not the most attractive occupation that they could probably get into," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told CBS.

Anyone who thinks that the POS in the WH hasn’t accomplished his goal “fundamentally changing of America” is sadly misinformed.

I would not be surprised if Mr. Trump ends up as the front runner GOP wise. If that happens, look for the start of major house cleaning, folks have had it.

I can’t see why sensible people go into the military anymore, or advise their kids to enlist. It’s become a testing ground for weird PC social experiments.

Nah.

Dirty scumbags unable to form complete sentences have ALWAYS loathed cops, always will. And it doesn’t matter, even if they back that up with bullets, as they are now, along with Presidential approval, amazingly enough.

I think the real sea-change is the change in the view of the cops among the white middle-class.

I don’t think they see an enormous difference between the norms and mores of cops culture and criminal culture:

Same tattoos, same music, same thievery, same animal abuse, same preference for early use of violence, or even use of violence that is totally un-necessary.

95% of the problem we see in the last 5 months of so is in a welfare culture, but a part of it really is in the cops, who shoot dogs, rob citizens, rough up old people, and kill veterans.

Gearing up for a massive “wealth redistribution”,

where looters are protected by federal police
from property owners defending their lives and property.

Landslide election wins sure turned the tide in 2010 and 2014!

After having lived and worked amongest blacks for over 55 years, moved to an area of the country where there is NO discernible black presence within a 50 mile radius of my abode. And a limited brown presence as well, I being one of those few ‘brown’ folk. It is VERY peaceful. Even the Walmart is an enjoyable experience now.

It is stuff like this and other things why Mr. Trump is getting the crowds he is getting.

Instapundit, possibly in a fit of over-confidence in the average citizen, sought to remind the cop-hating criminal element that the real function of policing is to prevent ad hoc criminal punishment by the aggravated public. Perhaps beating miscreants unconscious before dumping them outside of town would send a message, though, and think of the taxpayer money it would save.

Caliph Baraq made the term “lame duck” obsolete, at least for Democrats.

That’s the difference between the Chicago Mob and the Republican Country Clubbers.

I wonder what people thought when they first heard him and Mooshelle talk about that?

I know I could see it not being good for America, but what about the likes of the GOPe and all those who stayed home on election day in 2008 and 2012? Plus the ones who secretly voted for the POS.

Did they really think that having a marxist change agent as president would somehow be better for us all?

Every single parameter, even the price of gasoline, is worse than when George Bush was president.

We got gays all up in our faces, and elsewhere. Our Armed Services and NASA and the Boy Scouts have all been fundamentally transformed. We have a president of the United States who believes that killing babies in the womb and wholesaling their body parts is just peachy-keen.

Come Lord Jesus! Real soon. Please.

They’re practically scraping the bottom of the barrel as it is these days to get new recruits.

Blacks are exposed to the everybody’s-against-us, whitey-is-holding-us-down meme from birth. It takes a special person to see through it. I don’t know how I’d see the world if I’d been steeped in hatred for my entire life. Democrats have carefully built the bomb. They’ll touch their cheeks in horror when it goes off and profitably decry the racism that created it.

When the Tallahassee Democrat was controlled by a racist black woman editor there was a multipage Rosewood retrospective about every sixth or seventh Sunday. (Rosewood was a tiny black Florida town wiped out by the (irony) Democratic KKK in the ‘20’s.) I finally dropped my subscription as did so many of the other whites the paper has been sold many times since and has never recovered its circulation.
