Carly Fiorina Says Kentucky Clerk Should Issue Gay Marriage Licenses or Resign [Cruz,Paul disagree]
The Christian Post ^ | 9/3/15 | Ray Nothstine

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina offered her take on the growing controversy of the Kentucky county clerk who is refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses because it violates her religious conscience.

Fiorina spoke on Hugh Hewitt's radio show Thursday saying that religious liberty is clearly under attack but that rights of religious conscience is less clear when an individual is an "arm of the government."

"First, I think that we must protect religious liberties with great passion and be willing to expend a lot of political capital to do so now because it's clear religious liberty is under assault in many, many ways," Fiorina declared.

"Having said that, when you are a government employee, I think you take on a different role," she added. "When you are a government employee as opposed to say, an employee of another kind of organization, then in essence, you are agreeing to act as an arm of the government."

Fiorina, who has risen in the polls after a strong debate performance, is expected to be in CNN's Sept. 16 debate featuring top tier candidates, which is determined by polling.

Fiorina ALWAYS supports Mr. RomneyCARE, his imposed
gay marriage, and the Mullahs (even while at HP).

Carly is a GOPe plant. She is a gifted speakers and very bright she is the GOPe attack dog and her job is to take out the anti-establishment candidates. Watch her go after Trump at the debates. On policy there is little difference between her, linda, Jeb, Perry, Walker, etc.

She knows the KY law was struck down, so that there’s now no law under which to issue marriage licenses.

That's my position too.

So an arrogant judge’s contempt of court order trumps her civil rights to freely exercise her religious freedom. . .the Supreme Court ruling for gay marriage was garbage and should be treated as such.

I agree with Carly but think it’s awful that she’s going to jail. That’s scary.

Did the woman refuse to resign? If so then she’s causing a problem for herself.

I hate the incursion of deviant lifestyles into the realm of being legally allowed or endorsed, but am not exactly sure what government is to do about it.

How quickly and easily Christians around me are giving up their rights. For the most part they are part of the online firing squad, lined up against this woman.

You will probably be ok with taking pastors to jail for refusing to sign marriage licenses too.

Pray America is waking

I have read that she regularly meets with Jeb’s brother.

She want so “protect religious liberty with great passion”, but she supports jailing those who do.

How quaint.

The trap we can fall into is if Muslims in government offices do the same...

Sorry she is just plain wrong. She was elected to this position and took the job under a different job description.

Carly might be wrong, but this reasoning is ludicrous. New criminal laws are passed by legislatures all the time. This doesn't mean that law enforcement officer or court officials don't have to do their jobs just because they "took the job under a different job description."

I'm inclined to think the county clerk should resign, too ... but there's no way in hell she should be punished in a Federal court over this.

This just further reinforces my view that government has no business in licensing marriages under ANY circumstances.

Are you going to stand up for the rights of a Muslim county clerk who decides to issue marriage licenses to polygamous groups?

Of course they aren’t. If this clerk had claimed any other religion, the same crowd now supporting her would be frothing at the mouth.

I am as surprised as anyone that Fiorina of all people managed to get this one right.

I figure there is an exception/grandfathered in as it was no where in sight when she started the job. Besides it is elected office, she can be voted out if voters don’t like it. Or they can do like another state (SC?) and KY can pass a law saying they don’t have to. Right?
