CNN is set to cash in on the next Republican presidential debate on September 16 by charging a whopping 40 times its usual price for commercial time, according to a report in Ad Age.
Normally priced at about $5,000 for a 30-second primetime spot, the network is charging as much as $200,000, which is on par with what some broadcast primetime series charge for commercial spots.

CNN audiences have been pathetic for years. Only captive audiences in airports watch. And even at extremely low ad rates they have trouble selling commercial spots.
But this is their one chance to cash in.
The GOP should charge CNN millions of dollars for the rights to broadcast their debates.
Trump’s campaign should get half or he doesn’t show.
Prediction: Trump is going to call for CNN to donate the extra revenues that were generated on account of his presence during the debate.
I won’t be viewing. Had my fill. Going with ignoring it. I can see clips after hearing reactions.
If Trump did charge CNN half, his campaign could be the only one in history to make money for the candidate.
Maybe they’ll be nicer to him than Fox and Kelly? I doubt it, then again, it is the other 16 candidates and the GOPe that have to make a last stand. If Trump walks away with the debate, its all over with except for the fat lady to sing. Probably is already since none of the others have accomplished anything but drop in the polls, pick up a bit of me-too-ism, and embarrass themselves.
