I guess Davis could do a Donald Trump number and tell the guy, “You’re fired”.

Deputy clerk says he'll keep issuing licenses

I would tell him not to worry about it, because he is no longer employed there. Unlike his boss, who is an elected official, he is a hired employee. She can fire him for not doing what she says.

That’s what I was thinking.

The clerk is elected. I don’t know but presumably the deputy clerks are hires.

All God asked for to restrain from destroying Sodom and Gomorrah was ten righteous people.

Kim Davis is one. Can we find nine more?

If I were her I would also go on every license form and use a sharpie to cover my name. She is not preventing issuance, it just would not have my name on it.

Mason said Wednesday morning as the office opened that licenses would be granted to anyone seeking them. He told reporters that if Davis tells him to stop, he will tell her no.

So if she tells him to stop and he does then he goes to jail on contempt of court charges. If she tells him to stop and he doesn't then she can fire him. Rock, meet hard place.

Wikipedia: Kentucky Constitutional Amendment 1 of 2004, is an amendment to the Kentucky Constitution that makes it unconstitutional for the state to recognize or perform same-sex marriages or civil unions. The referendum was approved by 75% of the voters.

The text of the amendment states:

Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Kentucky. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.

Are the deputy clerks in a civil service union?

“I guess Davis could do a Donald Trump number and tell the guy, “You’re fired”.”

If Davis is to follow Trump, the only “firing” she would be doing to is herself.

How many Homo’s can be in that area? Add to that how many of the queers actually want to get married and we will run out of homo’s in a couple hours.

Are people so blind to the obvious?

Stop issuing ALL licenses. Country-wide. Then let the people get upset enough to elect people that will impeach the damn judges.

Simple math folks. Get out of the marriage biz and return it to church authority where it CAME FROM TO BEGIN WITH.

Tax issues? See voting.

The system works when we use it properly. Problem is we want our cake and to eat it too.

Read an article yesterday that said they weren’t putting her name on the forms for these same sex marriages.

That should ease her mind about it somewhat. It’s still not good that those marriages are getting licensed.

One wonders just how many are actually applying anyway, one per day three per week?

That may be so, but if they work at her pleasure she could fire the entire staff. I doubt she has the ability to fire other workers as they are government workers, but she can make their lives a living Hell.

Only trouble with that suggestion is that I think Kentucky law requires the name of the County Clerk to be on the document.
