Donald Trump is now saying nice things about Rick Perry

They traded insults on the campaign trail, but Donald Trump has nothing but kind words now that former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has left the Republican presidential race.

Perry announced his departure from the Republican primary Friday evening just before Trump taped an appearance on "The Tonight Show" in New York City.

Business Insider asked Trump about Perry as he left the NBC studios in Manhattan.

Trump described his former opponent as a "good man."

"It was a tough time, he's a terrific guy. I know him from before and he was a terrific guy," Trump said. "I wish him well. I think he's going to have a great future."

Trump has never had a problem with Perry, he has said many times that Perry is a good person...

Trump wanted to show the voting public that Perry isn’t the right man for the job, and he did...

Thank you Trump for making my job easier to vote for you...

I don’t know why this is noteworthy. Trump’s m.o. is that when he gets attacked or some sleight of hand, he responds. End of story.

He obviously holds no grudge or animosity toward Mr. Perry, nor should he. Donald Trump is a bigger man than that.

I’d like to see more of this from Trump. He needs to be civil and speak to the problems with an opponent’s perspectives on the issues instead of his personal attacks. History just shows that is the best way to target an opponent. This could be a major landslide if Trump plays it right.

Trump’s problem is his mouth. He says things that are not necessary or even adult to say. I am praying that those closest to him can encourage him to stay on a more professional level in his discourse.

I think Trump will pull Rick into the cabinet. I could see him as Secretary of Transportation.

Do you think that a billion dollar businessman would sit in a deal and talk this way???

NO, he’s getting rid of the P.C. B.S. and he should, if you have something to say, say it....

I think it's noteworthy because Perry trashed Trump when he pulled out the race, but Trump was gracious in return.

It’s obvious you haven’t read about the nasty mud slinging of yesteryear. Take Adams and Jefferson for example. That was one nasty election and the name calling was far worse than anything Donald has said. The problem is that this county has gone too PC. After their bitter rivalry, then became the best of friends for life. Politics is an ugly game and only the strong survive.

I really was referring to BI and not you, RR.

I agree it’s useful to post it here, and for the reasons you’ve given. I would have done the same myself.

Sorry for not making that clear.

The word combination “Trump following” is a non-sequitur.

Thank you for that link. The majority don’t remember this or never learned it - politics in the US used to be a rough business. :)

He needs to be civil and speak to the problems with an opponent’s perspectives on the issues instead of his personal attacks.

We had President GW Bush for that kind of nonsense.

This time it looks like we are going to have a mans man as President.

Hunker down, it's going to be a real firefight once he sets his sights on the ayatollah
