Combustion of available fossil fuel resources sufficient to eliminate the Antarctic Ice Sheet.
Few peer-reviewed study titles sound quite so much like a line spoken by the bad-news-bearing scientist from a dystopian sci-fi movie. But there it is. A real-worldand apparently very possibledystopia.
For what Ken Caldeira, a climate scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science and an author on the paper, published Friday in the journal Science Advances, believes is the first time, he and his colleagues have shown that there are enough fossil fuels still in the ground to melt effectively all of Antarctica and ultimately cause as much as 200 feet of sea level rise.

Well considering we’re actually heading into a solar minimum (FACT) North America might freeze pretty hard for the next 20 years.
Might be another ice age, might be we turn into a burning ball of fire.
Either way, much more research funding is needed or else we will all die.
Alternative realities are quite fun to speculate on.
“Im surprised it hasnt tipped over already with all that ice on it.”
Actually, I remember years ago there was a theory that the ice on the north pole was going to get so heavy it would move the earth’s axis and NY would wind up where FL is.
If it happens, I’m okay with it.
The reason they focus on Antarctica and not the Artic is that most of the ice is on the land mass which if it melted would indeed add to the volume of water in the ocean. Ice in the Artic is already floating so if it melts the ocean level doesn’t change. The problem with this theory is that the average temperature in Antarctica is -50 degrees F. Not much melting going to happen unless the average temperature goes up 90 degrees.
“Might” being the keyword. The Earth might also change orbits and spin closer to the Sun and melt. I might almost win the lottery. Somebody might buy me a new Harley.
Ice on the pole and our dams holding water where Gayia don’t want it, and Americans getting too fat.
It might not.
Hey that’s upside down you denier fool!!
Yes
I don’t understand the mockery of this important beer reviewed study. This paper is the work of Scientists and is really really series.
“All of Antarctica Might Melt”
Or it might not.
"....and I get pissed when I find out the neighbors kid has been tossing Tootsie Rolls in my litter box, causing me to shift tons of litter over a few days"
I hope it happens.... I am looking forward to it.
It just looks that way because it's south of the equator.
Think of all the new polar real estate that would be exposed.
A whole new continent there for the exploiting. And no pesky indigenous human population to feel guilty about displacing!
I checked Rush’s home page. The countdown to Al Gore’s predicted firestorm date is at 136 days.
