Transgender inmates in San Francisco jail to be housed based on identity regardless of whether they have had surgery
The San Francisco jail is taking steps to house female transgender inmates based on their gender identity by the end of the year, regardless if they have had gender reassignment surgery.
The move is the beginning of a two-phase policy expansion, announced Thursday, that will ultimately house transgender women and men in the jail based on their preferred gender identity.
The women will participate in classes, job training, physical recreation, and other programs in the women's jail during the day but will remain in the men's jail during the evenings and overnight.

One thing I've learned from lurking on liberal message boards is that very, very few transgender people get the full gender reassignment surgery. Many of them don't even bother with hormone treatments. A lot of them aren't even gay.
They're what we used to refer to as crossdressers, that's all.
As long as the Lots get out, I'm cool with that.
Perhaps we need to reexamine our definitions of "mentally ill" and Evil.

A disaster not just waiting to happen, but trying to happen.
The only possible good outcome would be a prison full of men who identify as women and got each other as cellmates instead of a real woman.
(This reminds me a little of when my high school with shop class and home ec class. Shop was for boys, home ec for girls. (I’m personally in favor of BOTH sexes knowing how to cook and how to build.) They finally decided to open them up with no restriction on gender. Huge numbers of boys signed up for home ec, expecting to be the only boy surrounded by girls. The joke was on them when the school scheduled home ec classes that just happened to be 100% male.)
