Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson has pulled to within 4 points of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new poll shows.
In the New York Times/CBS News survey released Tuesday, Trump maintains the lead of the presidential pack, with 27 percent support. But Carson is within striking distance, at 23 percent, which is within the margin of error, making it a statistical dead heat.Carson's rise compared with his polling at 6 percent support in the pre-Aug. 6 debate Times/CBS News survey; Trump was at 24 percent in that earlier poll, showing Carson's gains the most significant in that time frame, the poll shows.
Far behind the leaders were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, all tied for third place with 6 percent.
Bush's support, however, has plummeted from the 13 percent he got in the August Times/CBS News survey – while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker finished with just 2 percent, down from his previous 10 percent support.
The declines in support for Bush and Walker were the largest in the survey, the poll shows.
In other findings: Carson drew more support from college graduates than Trump, while men, evangelical voters and those without a college education were more likely to favor Trump. Carson is the only candidate to whom Trump would lose a theoretical head-to-head matchup.
The poll's release comes a day before the second Republican presidential debate in California, where Trump will retain center-stage, but Carson will be afforded a bigger spotlight.

Carson is an invention of the GOPe, and media hype, orchestrated by Fox News. He is a milder version of Obama. The man puts you to sleep talking, has said police treat black men rougher than than white men, has said we should let illegals stay in the country, and last, but not least was a democrat until the middle 80s, when he claims he switched and became a republican, then left the party and became an independent in the middle 90s because he didn’t like the way republicans were treating Bill Clinton and he didn’t agree with Clinton’s impeachment. This man is a fraud from the get-go. This poll is also BS. Just another way the media is trying to get Trump to go after Carson, because no one can possibly go after the Apostle Ben and survive.
I was wrong. I guess budgetary constraints are horrid. CBS/NYT can’t do a survey so that the MOE is under 4? The MOE is 6. Third place is a three way tie at 6. This poll only says Trump and Carson are strong in a general way, and the rest is background noise. Useless. No reason any national poll should have any higher than 4. State polls no more than 3.

I like Ben Carson, I really do. But I can’t shake the feeling that he is acting as a stalking horse for Jeb Bush. Clear out Trump and resume with the plan to force Jeb down our throats.
Ever wonder why there are so many candidates? It is so the vote can be split in key, delegate heavy states (where it is now winner takes all) allowing Jeb to win with 20-30% of the vote.
Look at the crowds at the rallies, they don’t match up. Besides, look at the poll sponsors, NYT and CBS? Give them what they want, make it a Trump /Carson ticket. That would make them really happy. (Like hell it would.) The DMOP will be working over time this coming election.
The bogus poll will be the lead story on every network on cable.
Megyn Kelly will start off with the story about “Trump and Carson being tied” going into the debate, and what will Trump do???? Oh, my!
With a 6 percent error range how many people did they ask, 10?

I don’t know if this poll is fake or not. But the GOPe wants him to push Trump out of the race. Then, of course, they’ll push Carson out (which should be very easy) and replace him with Jeb or Marco. Not Cruz, certainly!
Carson is too nice. We don’t need nice. Nice guys get rolled over by the leftist media and lose in the debates.
We need two guys who take names and kick ass...Trump/Cruz.

Carson is starting to draw support as the “Anti-Trump”. I don’t trust Trump, but I actively dislike Carson’s ideas about illegal immigration, guns, etc. I also doubt he has the executive experience to be President.
There are others in the field, and I’d like some of them to gain some ground before my chance to vote comes next year...
I imiagine theres some of that but it is mostly just the liberalism coming out of psuedocons as it does every election.
I mean it happens like clockwork every two years so how conservative are these people really? Answer: They arent. At best they are the moderates at best their actions show them to be. Why they just don’t admit it and haunt moderate sites I wil never understand.
