TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Jeb Bush said Monday that his wife misled U.S. Customs officials about $19,000 in new clothing and jewelry she brought into the country because she didn't want him to know how much she had spent on her five-day Paris shopping trip.
Forced to explain his wife's actions at the Atlanta airport Thursday, Bush said Monday that the episode had disrupted their family life. His wife, Bush said, feels "horrible about this."
"It was a difficult weekend at our house," Bush said.
On Friday, the Bushes disclosed that Columba Bush had paid a $4,100 fine and was briefly detained by Customs agents for failing to declare merchandise when she arrived at Hartsfield International Airport. With that, the low profile enjoyed by the governor's quiet wife ended. "Shop 'til you drop," read a headline Saturday in the Bush's new hometown paper, the Tallahassee Democrat.
In his first public remarks about the Customs fine, Bush on Monday declined to specify exactly what his wife had purchased, and he tried to guard her privacy.

I mean, who hasn't had to hide a $19,000 shopping trip from their husband? Who CAN'T relate to that?
“But he’s so pwesidentiool! He’s so tall!” -mind numbed idiots.
*ugh*
True, but the vast majority of the issues progressives were making up were non existent issues or attacking their children...
Children should be off limits...
Senorita Columba Bush can be the possible first lady, breaking the law by intent or stupidity deserves the full light of day...
Bush's children...leave them alone...
He needs to pull out of the race to handle the family situation. Clearly she is lonely and desperate, if he loves his wife he’ll go home to her and spend quality time with his family. Or ask Trump to give his wife what he can’t.
I hate that when my wife hides those pesky 20k expenses. Screws up my bank reconciliation.
Good idea but the fact is, the left will never let up and always attack families, therefore we must be pre-screened and ready for the inevitable attacks.
In the case of Jefe, his wife spent 5-days shopping and spent a heck of a lot of bucks, in my book, good on her, no issues with that.
The issue is why she under-reported.
Was it a simple over-sight — how does that happen when you fill out a customs form declaring what you bought and its value?
Or is it a case where the entitled lady felt that because she’s the wife of the former gov of FL she would never be stopped and checked? (Empress Moochelle and Hitlery would do this)
At any rate, we need to know before we send out our nominee (whoever that may be). If we don’t deal with our “issues” now the other side surely will.

They are called the “First Family” for a reason.
It is old but I hadn’t heard about it. Thought there might be others who hadn’t heard, either.
Her name might as well be Imelda. She has taken out loans to buy particularly pricey baubles.
Imelda Marcos Bush, wife of Yeb Bush.
Jeb Bush shaped by troubled Phillips Academy years
Possible presidential candidate had tumultuous four years at Andover school
In the fall of 1967, when a 14-year-old Texan named John Ellis Bush arrived on the bucolic campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, great expectations preceded him.
Jeb, as he was known, should have been an easy fit in that elite and ivied world. His much-accomplished father and his older brother had both gone to Andover; no one was surprised that Jeb had followed suit.
But this Bush almost ran aground in those first, formative prep school days. He bore little resemblance to his father, a star on many fronts at Andover, and might have been an even worse student than brother George. Classmates said he smoked a notable amount of pot as many did and sometimes bullied smaller students.
Resolutely apolitical despite his lineage, he refused to join the Progressive Andover Republicans club and often declined even to participate in informal bull sessions with classmates. In a tumultuous season in American life, he seemed to his peers strangely detached and indifferent.
Jeb is a jerk. Do you really want him running America?
Columba Bush's $42,000 shopping spree could damage husband Jeb’s nomination hopes
It’s like Lucy and Ricky with the races reversed.
I moved out of Florida the year before Bush became governor so I didn’t really know much about him, though I did shake hands with him at a campaign picnic once. I took my kids so we could get free food.
The more I read about him, the less I like him.
Scum, both of them.
We know the ss name for lady bush..... Imelda
