Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers appears to take a jab at Seahawk Russell Wilson (Mocks God)
Seattle Times ^ | 09/21/2015 | Bob Condotta

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers insisted throughout the week that he wouldn’t be thinking about anything that had happened in past games with the Seattle Seahawks as the two teams prepared for a rematch.

But after the Packers beat the Seahawks 27-17 in Green Bay Sunday night, Rodgers made a comment that appeared to show some of the history with the Seahawks was on his mind. Specifically, comments Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson made after the NFC Championship game crediting the Seahawks’ comeback to God.

Asked after the game a question about the Packers have been able to create and deal with a winning culture, Rodgers said, according to the transcript prepared by the team: “I just think it’s a top-down mentality. It’s being very confident in the preparation and then getting it all from God. I think God was a Packer fan tonight, so He was taking care of us.”

Thanks for posting that link. Reinforces my belief that Rodgers is a stand-up guy (that occasionally makes mistakes, like all of us).

That’s not mocking. There’s a long history of declaring God to be a fan of your team going back much further than the hole in Dallas’ roof (so God could watch). It’s just how sports works. Also dog shows as almost everybody at those is quite convinced God loves their breed best.

And what team had a player ejected from the game last night?

That team has the dirtiest players in the NFL.

Just waiting for the first person to blame God when they lose.

I do sometimes blame the football gods when my team loses, but they are a completely different group of deities. :)

He was mocking a Christian. Because they are easy targets in this Godless society.

To me it’s a groaner. Kind of sounds smart aleck. (I knew a preacher who would use that kind of groaner from time to time in his sermons, before getting down to brass tacks.)

It is, however, kind of in the fine tradition of irony. Christians and Jews can talk like this. Muslims can’t.

Would be a good opportunity for a Christian on the other side to quote the verse about losing your life if you want to save it. Shame the ridiculous with the sublime.

I kinda agree. Seems to me He has more important stuff on His plate.

If you're from Wisconsin then you know there is nothing more important than Packer football. If you don't believe this, ask my wife...

PS Have you ever heard about the "Immaculate Reception"?
Clearly a case of Divine Intervention!

So, you think God takes sides in the irrelevent?

Only when it's spelled correctly

God has a sense of humor. All one has to do is look around and you will see what I mean.

Look at a stork's knees as he walks, then try to design a chair for him to sit and rest a bit.

Consider the duck billed platypus Mr. Darwin and explain where that fits into your scheme of things...

GtG

Aaron Rogers criticized for comments on God and the Packer/Seahawk game.

Personally, I don’t consider this “mocking”, not any more than Wilson’s comments about the Seahawk win over the Packers last year. Many football players play to God for protection befoe and after every game. Is that wrong? And are they wrong to thank God after a win? I don’t think so. God wants to hear from us about the tiniest things, according to a priest at my church.

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.

Man. How sad. One of my favs... But he did go to Berkeley, and is hooked up with a Hollywood libtard actress, so not totally unexpected.

He went to Berkeley but chose to get a degree from some diploma mill in Wisconsin. He’s a moron.

How does Rogers boyfriend feel, excuse me, girlfriend?

I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that right after the male “room mate” stuff came out Rodgers started publicly dating hot Hollywood babes.

I wrote in my comment that I did not believe that God took sides in football.

IMO Rodger was mocking God ... or at least another person’s belief in the power of God in that person’s life.

It was stupid macho football smack talk. IMO not very classy for the winning team to mock the losing team. The only reason it’s even worth mentioning, at least on my part, is that I don’t like to see a person’s Christian faith mocked.

.
No, he was not mocking God! Rodgers is a real believer.

Players that constantly thank God for letting them win or score or whatever just don’t know who God is or what he is doing.

If they wish to thank him for letting them complete the game uninjured, that might be appropriate, but he does not choose sides in irrelevent contests. They have no real faith if they can believe that nonsense.

There is nothing here, folks. It is neither for God or against God. Rodgers is merely saying that he did not think God was worrying about NFL football games. I agree with him.

Seriously if we pray to God for deliverance it ought to be for deliverance from evil, and there is plenty of it in the world. We ought not to worry about whether God is a Packers fan or a Seahawks fan.
