Admin Mod note: Title changed at source to Cruz: Carson's stance on Muslim presidents unconstitutional
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is criticizing GOP rival Ben Carson for saying that a Muslim should not be president of the United States.
At a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday evening, Cruz said religious convictions should have no bearing on ones fitness for the Oval Office.
You know, the Constitution specifies there shall be no religious test for public office and I am constitutionalist, he said, according to The Des Moines Register.
My view, listen. The presidents faith is between him and God, the 2016 Republican White House hopeful added of President Obama. What Im going to focus on is his public policy record.

+1!!!
I don't get making up an imaginary question and scenario and then judging the candidates on their response to a question not asked.
Cruz's statement is a response to "allowed or required" and is the correct response.
On the other hand, Carson was asked whether a president's faith should matter to voters. He said:
"I guess it depends on what that faith is," he said. "If it's inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter. But if it fits within the realm of America and consistent with the Constitution, no problem.Asked whether Islam is consistent with the Constitution, Carson said: "No, I don't -- I do not."
He said: "Congress is a different story, but it depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are, just like it depends on what anybody else is," Carson said.
I am constitutionalist,Except he had to be schooled by Trump and Levin on the meaning of the grade school wording of the 14th amendment.
The headline is lying. Read other comments on this and many previous threads today regarding what Carson and Cruz are saying.
They both agree with each other and are correct.
Do not fall for leftist lying headlines
Islam needs to be redefined as an ideology and not a religion. Beginning to discuss this issue is an excellent start. Good on Ben Carson to enlighten others about what exactly islam is.
FWIW - The Hill has backed off their lying headine which was ‘Cruz rebukes Carson for comments about Muslim president’ and is now posting ‘Cruz: Carson’s stance on Muslim presidents unconstitutional’ which is also a lie.
Leaving it up to you to adjust the FR headline to this new crock of obama. Or not.
Amazing. Insinuating that it would be unconstitutional for somebody to vote based on their own personal conscience. Amazing.
I think the headline bamboozled you....he didn’t mealy mouth anything.
It’s been fixed.
Thanks.
When the issue being beat to death by the media is how awful it is that Trump hasn't acted correctly by coming against some obscure questioner, or rebuking anyone who claims the bamster is a muslim, I would expect that he could at least keep up with Trump and Carson in dealing with it.
He didn't. Rabbit trailing off into the religious clause did not help his case, it's not what he should have talked about. He swung and missed. What he said didn't help him while Trump and Carson took full advantage of their opportunity.
I'm not bamboozled, but I am a bit disappointed, you only get so many chances, and on this one he missed.

Cruz never goes after Carson and is very specific about his reasoning. (If only we could just mute Cavuto...)
You Commented as follows:
"What in the world is Cruz talking about??? Ones religious convictions certainly does have a bearing on how one governs. Christians do NOT put their faith in JESUS CHRIST on a shelf when they enter the work place! Cruz is in Biblical error."
Cruz has said on numerous occasions his Christian convictions absolutely have bearing on how he would govern, you have not been paying attention to Cruz if you have not heard him say that very thing, in fact he says his Christian beliefs have a bearing on everything he says and does.
Whosoever therefore shall confess (acknowledge) Me (JESUS) before men, him will I confess also before My FATHER which is in Heaven. But whosoever shall deny (reject) Me before men, him will I also deny before My FATHER which is in Heaven.
Cruz has acknowledge Christ as his savior on more occasions in this campaign than other, he speaks more often and more boldly of Christ than any other, you have not been paying attention again, in fact I think you know little or nothing about Cruz his life his testimony of salvation, to use such a verse against him, it is a false accusation, again shame on you.
And the other verses you posted against Cruz are the twisting and turning of our scripture to increase more lies and false accusation, his whole life has been dedicated to Christ, you know nothing of him if you don't know that, he makes a big issue of his faith in Christ, you just may not see or hear it in three minute video clips, no one; again I say not a single person in this campaign has spoken more loudly and boldly while on the campaign trail about Jesus Christ in this campaign then Ted Cruz.
If Cruz is truly a Christian, he is going to be in for a rude awakening at the Judgement Seat of CHRIST if he puts JESUS on a shelf as he pursues his career(2 Corinthians 5:10).
No you will be in for a rude awakening, you absolutely are bringing false and unfounded accusations against a member of the body of Christ, you make such judgements based on phony media article that says he criticized, it is a complete lie, what other phony evidence do you have to back up these lies, again Cruz never criticized Carson, he did only state the truth; the Constitution does not put a religious litmus test on people running for any office.
I agree scripture is NEVER wrong, but you and the way you used our scripture to falsely accuse that is WRONG!
You are so right.
Cruz never had some of these people’s vote in the first.
You remain loyal to someone who had a rotten headline written about him...and the content reads nothing like the headline.
Just an excuse to support someone else. Although it’s hard to predict who.
Some of these people seem to be operating on pure, high-strung emotionalism.
I really think they would have been happier if Cruz had said, "Hell, yeah, the Constitution says Muslims can't run for president!"
Seems you need to fabricate my position in order to rebut.
They wrote that it could only exist in the context of a Christian population
If we have that then there's no worry of electing a Sharia-law president. If we don't have that, then, as you say, we have an existential threat, no matter the constitutional requirements.
I was really diisappointed with this interview too. Fine, Ted is correct in that there is no religious test to be POTUS.
That said, he did absolutely nothing to support Carson and his opinion. Carson never said a Muslim could not be POTUS, he said he would not advocate for it. Sharia is not compatible with the US Constitution.
Ted left the room going off into the weeds as though he was in a race with Obama.
Terrible interview. Underwhelming again.
I’m responding to the post that was put up about Cruz and Carson. That’s my right. You don’t have to like it. If the post headline was incorrect, why post it? Expect people to challenge and TEST what Cruz and Carson supposedly said. Trump-haters analyze Trumps comments ALL THE TIME. The Bible is always correct and just like JESUS used Scripture against satan when the devil tried to tempt Him, it is my God-given right to use Scripture as the Standard to TRY/TEST ALL CANDIDATES for election. As a Christian, I will continue to do that!
Exactly. The Hill is trying to stir up a mess when it claims Cruz “rebuked” Carson. never happened.
Also...can we stop with the idea that Cruz is “taking lessons” from Trump? Ted is operating the way he always has...he’s in no need of tutoring.
“Seems you need to fabricate my position in order to rebut.”
No, only extending it; when you pick up one end of the stick, you pick up the other end also. In case you haven’t noticed, Christians are being slaughtered in the Middle East. How many “moderate” Muslims are vehemently protesting that? Or just merely protesting that?
Sharia law is being implemented in the United States now.
