Pope Francis: Climate Change Action Can’t Wait
CBS Baltimore ^ | 23 Sep 15 | AP

Posted on 09/23/2015 9:47:21 AM PDT by xzins

Jumping into the issues of the day, Pope Francis opened his visit to the United States with a strong call Wednesday for action to combat climate change, calling it a problem that “can no longer be left to a future generation.” President Barack Obama, in turn, hailed the pontiff as a moral force who is “shaking us out of our complacency” with reminders to care for the poor and the planet.

The White House mustered all the pageantry it had to offer as the pope arrived at the White House before an adoring crowd of thousands and a nation that seemingly cannot get enough of the humble pontiff who is rejuvenating American Catholicism while giving heartburn to some of its conservatives.

Speaking in a soft voice and halting English, Francis delivered a strong message against those who doubt the science of climate change, saying that the warming planet “demands on our part a serious and responsible recognition” of conditions awaiting today’s children.

It was a message sure to delight the Obama White House, and liberals in general. But the pope’s message had something for conservatives, too, with a pointed call to protect religious liberties — “one of America’s most precious possessions.”

Go back to the Vatican, pull out a book on Galileo and shut your face, o.k.?

That's probably not the best place to go for actual history...

Climate change is the least of our worries. The economic system of the world will collapse before they can get a penny from any of us.

Pray for our nation.

This is just sad. I'm not Catholic, nor do I have an anti Catholic animus. I've met many Catholics that have a deep and abiding faith in Jesus as Lord.

It's hard to think about what great leaders John Paul and Benedict (sp?) were, then think about this out of his league emoter taking their place.

Sad indeed.

But putting an end to the slaughter of Christians in Muslim countries and in Africa...that can wait?

Sounds like a PINO to me.

I thought that, too, like a comedian trying to impersonate someone completely loaded or drugged out.

Who has the bigger brown-nose, Bathhouse Barry or the Pope...in the old days, it was easy to determine who was the King...he was always the only one in the whole country who did not have a brown nose!

Holding pattern around the swamp land huh? Looked like a fairly tight circle for the speed involved. Late? Yeap. With all the assets available between there and Andrews it sure wasn’t a delay over lack of security.

I guess a modern ‘doomsday scenario’ is one way to bring some liberals back to the Catholic church.

“Come for the climate change. Stay for the anti-abortion and Transubstantiation! No, not THAT trans!!”

Perhaps the Pope feels that with all the other galaxies, solar systems, and planets to worry about, God might want us to take responsibility for ourselves and our actions.

The Pope’s Spanish and Italian is a lot better than his English as I listened to him in all 3 languages.

... I would like all men and women of goodwill in this great nation to support the efforts of the international community to protect the vulnerable in our world and to stimulate integral and inclusive models of development ...

We all know what that really means ... can we rename him "Pope Karl I"?

I'm so sick of organized religion. Although I adhere to Christian/Judeo values, I think they're all full of it, especially the Catholics. Really? A bunch of guys decide within their politics and personal feelings that some other guy has a direct line to God? The Smoke comes out of chimney and now this guy is Devine? Pfft.

Again, I adhere to Christian/Judeo ethics, but some ELECTED man now is God's closest bud? What a crock. I can't believe that so many think the Pope is all that. Well, at least he isn't using his power to kill, rape, mutilate others in the name of God like Islam does.
