Rick Santorum accuses Ted Cruz of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants
washington times ^ | 9/25/2015 | Seth McLaughlin

Posted on 09/25/2015 9:47:22 AM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum vowed Friday to pursue immigration policies that protect American workers, while warning voters that some of his GOP rivals have embraced a much softer approach to the issue. Mr. Santorum, the runner-up in the 2012 Republican nomination battle, urged the crowd that converged on a hotel in Washington, D.C., for the annual Values Voter Summit to recognize that a couple of the speakers before him — Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz — have previously supported “amnesty” for illegal immigrants. “You have a lot of people that come up here and talk about how tough they are, but they actually support amnesty. The speaker just before me running for president, he will tell you how tough he is,” Mr. Santorum said, alluding to Mr. Cruz. “He offered an amendment to allow people to stay in this country indefinitely. To me, that is amnesty.” Mr. Santorum has struggled to gain a foothold in national polling and is running near the back of the pack. With that as a backdrop, the 57-year-old has staked a lot in the immigration debate. He also has touted the conservative record he compiled in Congress, including authoring legislation aimed at changing the leadership of the Iranian government. Mr. Santorum served in the House from 1991 to 1995 and in the Senate from 1995 to 2007 when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Bob Casey Jr. by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.

Desperation is not appealing, just go way Little Rickie.

I challenge you to link to any quote by Cruz that would make you think he was for amnesty.

I'm betting you can't!

I was joking about the descriptive language you used on Santorum.

Well let me confess...that thought crossed my mind...but then I said, no, that's not his style. So I must say, in retrospect, well played. (except of course, I'm not asking to be the most powerful man in the free world).

I am skeptical of a former liberal who has recently changed most all of his positions and decides to run for president!!

...you're gonna have to narrow it down more than that....lotta that going around.

Rick’s a really outstanding man, and he would make a super President. But I’m for Ted.

Well you and I agree on Ted, but not on Rick. I don't buy the "outstanding man" image - nor do I think he's Presidential material. But hey, one out of three ain't bad.

Agree. Santorum is one of the strongest on immigration. He has also spoken out against runaway LEGAL immigration, recognizing that legal immigration can cause the same problems as illegal immigration. Case in point (from me not RS): Islamic immigration. Most Muslims move to our homeland legally. Nonetheless, importing Islam is a suicidal disaster here just like it has been in Europe or anywhere else.

Cruz on the other hand, said a few months ago something like "let me make it simple, Legal Good, Illegal Bad". Basically spouting baby talk that ignores the fact that large scale movement of third wold populations into the USA is problematic, with or without papers.

I can’t stand Santorum. Just looking at him is annoying.

He reminds me of the gay emcee in “Little Miss Sunshine!”

What my wife does and what her opinions are are HERS, NOT MINE. I’m sure ted Cruz also knows the difference.

Nancy Reagan was more liberal than her husband too.

“A lot apply LEGALLY for green cards, and then get stuck there for years waiting for their application to be approved.

I already have several H1B colleagues who I hired waiting for 5 years for their green card applications to be approved. Just going through the Department of Labor is a pain in the butt.”

We have known a few of these good people. It took forever for them to become citizens after legally going through the process. They paid their taxes and were and still are good people.

Santorum, the whiny petulant child, is being funded by the gOpee to siphon votes away from the true conservative Ted Cruz.

There is no other purpose for Santorum to be running again. He's been bought by gOpee just like when he backed Snarlin' Arlen.

We can debate about H1B visas but this thread is about ILLEGAL immigration.

Strange as it may seem both issues lead to more democratic voters.

The expansion of green cards was for LEGAL immigrants. You have been informed of this multiple times.

Cruz has never been for amnesty, what are you talking about???

He’s just about the only one who has been consistent on this issue from day one. And that includes Trump!

Hey Rick, I supported you once, now go find something useful to do, for which you’re qualified.

Why would you take shots at Cruz?

You think that will help you or Bush?

Santorum better watch what he claims. He’s voted on far more immigration issues than Cruz has—AND has a far more troubling record.
