DC Launches Anti-Smoking Campaign A Week Before Taxing Vape Shops Out Of Existence
The Daily Caller ^ | September 24, 2015 | Josh Fatzick

D.C. Council Member Yvette Alexander announced Tuesday that the week of Sept. 20, 2015, would forever be known as “DC Calls It Quits Week.”

The announcement comes just one week before the city plans to implement a 67 percent tax on e-cigarettes, effectively taxing vape shops out of existence.

Alexander brought a gaggle of people to the front of the council chambers to make the announcement and to encourage “everyone in the District of Columbia to put down those cigarettes.”

"Put down those tobacco product today, and hopefully this can be the beginning of a new beginning for anyone who smokes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, even marijuana,” she declared while being congratulated by fellow council members and community activists.

Funny thing is that there are studies showing that nicotine prevents parkinson’s disease.

I’ve got a good friend who is a heavy smoker. I would love to get him to try vaping. At least with vaping, you aren’t inhaling the tar and carbon monoxide from a burning cigarette.

It seems like it is a typical liberal thing — “It looks like smoking, so it is bad.”

Good news for shops across the river in Virginia. Last time I checked, you could ride the metro, pick some up and be back in an hour.

Sucks worse to be a busy body that can't keep their nose out of other people's business like the members of this council.

Somebody, somewhere, may be enjoying themselves.

Easy enough to get around.

You can buy the flavorings at the Flavorer’s Apprentice for a few bucks.

That amount keeps me vaping for 2-3 months. And of course, you can buy the batteries and vaporizers online as well.

Good job, DC. You just eliminated another source of revenue for yourselves.

Try vaping a tobacco flavored Whole Tobacco Alkaloid (WTA) juice, gives you a few more of the tobacco chemicals but again without the tar.

It’s gonna make a lot of smugglers rich, real and vape loads.

When you are a ten minute ride from Maryland or Virginia, smuggling is hardly necessary.

I can smell it clinging to the clothes and hair of someone who does, and I think to myself, "My God, I walked through life for thirty years smelling like THAT to other people?!?" I actually stopped and asked myself how many women rejected me simply because I stunk,

LOL. There were some knock down, drag out fights on FR in years past on whether smokers stunk (or not).

I’ve actually cut the nicotine from 1.8 to 1.2 and then to .6 - I do remember that nice little buzz when lighting up now and then but don’t miss it. I’m not sure if it can be duplicated with vaping. I actually didn’t realize that doesn’t seem to happen with vaping until I read your post - I hadn’t thought about it.

The secret to my enjoyment of vaping was finding a flavor I really liked and getting a higher-end battery and tank. The e-cigs just didn’t cut it as a replacement for cigarettes.

If I were still living in the DC area, I would set up or relocate my vapor store in Virginia. Fairfax or Alexandria. They could name it Washington Redskins vapor store. Since there is no legal trademark on the name.

“The people should still be able to mail order their Vape supplies.”

Oh,the greedy states will go after mail order just as they did the mail order cigs.

Squid, I think there is something else in cigarettes that make them even more addictive. Other chemicals. Besides nicotine.

I quit smoking 7 years ago with the Commodore 64 versions of e-cigarettes. Everyone is different and what works for someone might not work for someone else.

I still love the smell of burning cigarettes. It smells like freedom. :-) i’ll hang out with people smoking just to get a whiff.

Mears, Yep. It’s all about the money. The anti-smoking groups and big government statists are more corrupt than the tobacco companies in their heyday.

Electronic cigarettes are a disruptive technology much like Uber is to the taxi industry, or cell phone cameras were to Fotomat, or streaming videos were to Blockbuster.

Statists don’t know what else to do. Human ingenuity beats central planning and fascism every time.

Wow. I’m down to no more than one cigarette per day, thanks to vaping. I recently went 3 days without a cigarette. Eff you, anti-vaping nazis.

Are these the same people who take a bath is some eau (or spray it on heavily) and leave you on an elevator wheezing with tears in your eyes?

What the heck is wrong with that?

What??? You are STILL happy?

They'll FIX THAT!

It's their mission in life, to deprive anyone of their pleasure, no matter how small or transient.

Thanks for the link.

Known EDCs include bisphenol A (BPA) found in food can linings and cash register receipts, phthalates found in plastics and cosmetics, flame retardants and pesticides.

I just finished a five year stint practically living in FR clothing, (NFPA 2112 compliant, when that standard went into effect, Arc Flash 8 prior). Between that and canned goods, I'd probably have been better off smoking. (Neither my wife nor I use much in the way of fragrances, nor products with them, and she doesn't use make-up much either, so that's the good part).

Damn them all to hell!

This is exactly the same as the business where they try to convince people to drive less and use electric cars.

So people drive less and use electric cars, and gas tax revenues fall.

So now they want us to pay for driving by the mile to make up the difference...

In the meantime . . . ISIS is planning a nuclear tsunami. Sort of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? DC hasn’t had its priorities right in years.

Baby and toddler cloths are soaked in flame retardants ... it’s a liberal horror from the 60’s .... Might have something to do with why American children have ‘allergy, autism, etc’ problems...
