If you are more specific on details we can discuss it better.

In the spring of 2013 the Senate Foreign Relations Committee authorized(15-3) Obama/CIA to begin arming the moderate rebels in Syria, and the Intelligence Committee would approve the CIA plan. The only opposition to this was the isolationists like Rand Paul and Mike Lee plus the antiwar dems.

By early 2014 these rebels were complaining that the pace was too slow and they needed anti-aircraft weapons. There was some talk(McCain) about giving them the anti-aircraft weapons but that ended when the airliner got shot in Ukraine.

So in Aug 2014, congress approved more money and expanded training to the military.

Because of this, the tide turned against Assad, so, Assad asked Putin for help. Of course Putin will deal with ISIS also, but, he needs to take care of these groups being supported by the US and the Gulf Sunni States who are the biggest threat to Assad.

Syrian military weakness, painfully exposed over the last few months, is the main reason for direct Russian intervention in the war – whether its goal is to strike at Islamic State or, more likely, to take on any rebel force fighting Bashar al-Assad in order to shore up his position and stave off demands that he step down.

What should have been done last year was this
https://kyleorton1991.wordpress.com/2014/12/24/what-to-do-about-syria-sectarianism-and-the-minorities/ but the Obama administration has no workable foreign Policy.

“You need to do better research on the targets the Russians hit and the groups they were aiming for”

Perhaps this will do http://carnegieendowment.org/syriaincrisis/?fa=61493

What you’ve described is a rogue Obama operation to funnel cash and weapons to Islamic terrorists in Syria using the fiction of “moderate rebels” to either fool Congressional oversight or provide them with a plausible cover story.

That lie has been exposed.

Will the blow back be worse than the US funding the mujaheddin against Russia in Afghanistan? How did that work out for the US? Hmmmm ?

Yeah, Reagan continued a Carter administration plan to fund and train the mujaheddin. Biggest f*** up by a CIC in American history. Still paying dividends. Thanks Jimmy, thanks Ronnie.

Obama's authority in Syria is limited and debatable. The only authority he has is the Iraq AUMF he inherited from Bush.

Obama asked for an AUMF(Feb 2015) but the GOP is leery that such an AUMF would limit the next GOP prez(2016) and the dems are opposed because they think it would be another blank check like the one Bush got.

That is your poorly informed opinion. It was authorized by Congress and subsequently expanded by Congress.

mac_truck, you are one of the biggest supporters of KGB/FSB Putin on the site. Please don't try to act like you care about American security. You couldn't possibly if you defend Putin time after time on every conceivable issue. He can do no wrong in your eyes. Meanwhile, Russia under that evil snake (or otherwise) has armed and backed a long line of America's enemies, including Saddam Hussein.

Yeah right...mine and a few other people's.

General Austin: Only '4 or 5' US-Trained Syrian Rebels Fighting ISIS

Exclusive: 50 Spies Say ISIS Intelligence Was Cooked

It was authorized by Congress and subsequently expanded by Congress.

BFD...Congress was either in on the scheme or completely fooled by it...doesn't change the facts on the ground one bit.

The article is really an op-ed, from the leftist Guardian in the UK, and is continues the pro-illegals drumbeat. UKIP has a future after all! Thanks AdmSmith.

Check out this video from Moscow. In the text they claim that it is 2 SU-30 on a mission to bomb ISIS. But the weapons are not for attack! What are they doing?

Russia churns out propaganda, just as the USSR did. But this is probably stock footage.
