LONDON: Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly sending 150,000 soldiers to Syria to wipe out the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

According to The Daily Star, he is apparently mounting an enormous military mission to take control of the terror group's stronghold of Raqqa.

Raqqa is the self-declared capital of ISIS which is patrolled by as many as 5,000 jihadi members.

Putin is set to mobilise 150,000 reservists whom he conscripted into the military earlier this week.

Some people deploy force in the world to extend their influence for better or worse while others talk.

It's like the old line from the film, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” where Eli Wallach says: “When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk”.

Ovomit has LOST US power, respect and influence all over the planet and caused some to ask if this is the twilight of America?

Putin is the man... I don't trust him and think what he's doing in ukraine is cynical, but on the matter of destroying the Islamic state -- on that matter -- I fully, completely support him

Russia moving in under the pretense of ridding the region of ISIS is like the Mafia moving to your neighborhood under the pretense of removing a violent street gang, then setting up a permanent base there to do Mob “business”.

Russia will grow wealthier, more powerful, more aggressive in their overall expansionist agenda (Eastern Europe, eventually elsewhere), and much more of a threat to the US and its allies throughout the region and the world.

Sure it’s great IF they actually do get rid of ISIS (we shall see). But having a country like Russia step in and gain such huge strategic advantage over the US and it's allies is nothing we should be cheering about.

If Obama was serious about wanting to take out ISIS, which I don’t believe he ever was—I think him and Putin are actually in cahoots on this whole thing despite his and Kerry’s moans and groans about it, it might not ever have come to this, although Russia would likely have come up with some other rationale or excuse for moving into Syria and taking control of it, and ultimately the entire Middle East. Makes me wonder if ISIS wasn’t a KGB-like invention of the Russians.

************************************************************

Looks like that may not be so far fetched.

Just came across this a few moments ago...

From Aug 23, 2015:

"a recent investigation conducted by Novaya Gazeta, one of the few independent newspapers left in Russia, complicates this cozy tale of counterterrorist cooperation. Based on extensive fieldwork in one village in the North Caucasus, reporter Elena Milashina has concluded that the “Russian special services have controlled” the flow of jihadists into Syria, where they have lately joined up not only with ISIS but other radical Islamist factions.

In other words, Russian officials are adding to the ranks of terrorists which the Russian government has deemed a collective threat to the security and longevity of its dictatorial ally on the Mediterranean, Bashar al-Assad."

It would take a while for Russia to move 150,000 troops with all of their equipment and supplies to Syria.>>>>>>>>>>>>>

4 months tops. They can do it via land without using a single ship.Likely be done in 60 days.

Yep and split Iraq with Iran.

Russia will chase ISIS right into Iraq and Iran will come in from the East.

The Sunni tribesmen fought against the earlier incarnation of the Islamic state, but then the Shia PM neglected them. Lately the Islamic state has been slaughtering Sunni tribes who oppose them as well

The way to handle the Islamic state guys is to eliminate them -- kill them on the ground. Leave that to the Russians, Iranis, Iraqis

I agree with you let someone else die. Bush should have nuked Mecca and left it in a smoking ruins. He should have secured our borders.

If in fact he sends 150,000 troops there, it won’t be for Isis. Maybe 5000 and air power for Isis. The rest are for his larger strategic interests. The ones Obama has phuqued up for us

"4 months tops. They can do it via land without using a single ship.Likely be done in 60 days."

Mobilizing 150,000 troops would take more than two months in my estimation. Perhaps as you said 4 months, but we would certainly see it. They couldn't hide it, that's for sure. As for how they would move on land, it would have to go through Turkey (doubtful) or through Iran and Iraq. A long convoy like that, it would be shame if a big bomb accidentally dropped on them. Oooops! Did I say that out loud???

I suspect there has to be at least some in government concerned that if Russia is successful, just as Rubio predicted, the break-up of NATO may happen. We’re all pretty sure BiBi is glad-handing Putin in this affair for strategic reasons. Wouldn’t be surprised if other European countries are quietly giving praise to this operation

Hungary and Czech Republic are openly opposed to accepting Muslim refugees and they are bucking Merkel. Destroying ISIS would give Assad a chance to get control and stabilize the refugee situation.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Merkel’s opposition exploits popular discontent with the refugees. If Merkel’s position is compromised or she falls, her opponent might move Germany towards Russia.

Thanks to jihadi Barry, America will be to blame and that’s just what our first muzzie president really wants.

I beg your indulgence to differ. They will flee to Saudi Arabia, in whose service they are acting for the Sunni cause.

It’s a shame that we and Russia couldn’t be clearly united on the goal of wiping out Islamists. Both superpowers mowing the muzzies down in lockstep would put some terror in their dark hearts. Trump and Putin could probably have worked out a deal to this effect. Can’t complain if Putin gets the job done first though.
