Gresham Police say a driver suspected of smoking marijuana slammed his Toyota Prius into a 46-year-old Portland woman at a Gresham intersection Monday sending the woman flying 35 feet.

The collision took place at 8:09 a.m. at the intersection of East Burnside Street and Northeast 181st Avenue. The woman, who Gresham Police did not identify, was attempting to cross Burnside on a marked crosswalk. The accident comes just just five days after retail recreational marijuana sales became legal in Oregon.

Don’t get me started on cell phone drivers.
On the way home I have to run the gauntlet of women
driving huge SUV’s who are thoroughly distracted by
their phones.

Adding drivers who are high on weed to drunks and that
crowd is not helping matters any.

You think that high driving started with the legalization of pot in a few states? Really?

Thankfully, many freepers recognize that government cannot enforce morality. Period. And we should stop wasting tax dollars on the delusion that government can.

Too bad that there are freepers and so called conservatives that think that big government is good. No wonder our party is in shambles.

Speed was not a factor in the accident, Gresham police said.

That's good - because pot and amphetamines is not a good mix.

Actually it might. I’d rather be on the road with a bunch of people high on pot than a bunch of people using cell phones. Potheads are too paranoid when they drive, so they won’t be on their phone, and they’ll be paying attention to the road usually, keeping an eye out for cops.

Yeah, they have slow reaction speeds and they may drive 5 mph under the speed limit, but they’re less dangerous than the distracted cell phone users, in my estimation.

Does anyone really think that last week, when pot was illegal, nobody drove high?

No, but now many more will be.

I think legalizing pot attracts users from all over the fruited plain to move to that state and numerically compound the problem.

I know somebody who works with the homeless in Denver. If you think I am wrong he would beg to differ with you. As would the GOP electoral vote counters who advise all of those candidates not to come out against Colorado legalization.

You know, by some of the logic being expressed on this thread the Highway Traffic Safety Administration should be ENCOURAGING drivers to fire up a joint before hitting the road. For enhanced public safety and all.

Unlikely. Think about it, how many people do you know who don’t smoke pot now, but would if it were legal? The vast majority of people either decided long ago it was not for them, or smoke even though it’s illegal.

Ha!

Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but if I am going to be on the road with one group or the other (which seems unavoidable), then I’ll take the potheads over the texters, no contest.

The driver was mellow about the whole thing, wondering why people were upset.
