Cannabis users soon may be a majority among young adults in the District of Columbia and several pot-friendly states, a trend that points to a potential future of destigmatized marijuana across much of the nation. More than two-fifths of young men and women nationwide now use cannabis at least on occasion, according to federal data, a quotient that has risen steadily in a decade of relentless legalization. Much of the trend is driven by young women, who have all but closed a decades-long gender gap in marijuana use.

Gresham Police say a driver suspected of smoking marijuana slammed his Toyota Prius into a 46-year-old Portland woman at a Gresham intersection Monday sending the woman flying 35 feet. The collision took place at 8:09 a.m. at the intersection of East Burnside Street and Northeast 181st Avenue. The woman, who Gresham Police did not identify, was attempting to cross Burnside on a marked crosswalk. The accident comes just just five days after retail recreational marijuana sales became legal in Oregon.

A Hercules teacher who left his car running in a school parking lot Wednesday was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale, after an inquisitive police officer checked out the idling Honda and found $4,200 in cash and suspected drugs inside, authorities said. Police said the officer found the car idling in the parking lot of Hercules Middle/High School on Refugio Valley Road at about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday. The car had temporary paper plates, so the officer ran its vehicle identification number to find the owner.
