Hewitt slams House Freedom Caucus
The Hill ^ | 10/11/15 | Kevin Cirilli

Posted on 10/12/2015 12:53:30 PM PDT by jimbo123

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Sunday slammed Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) and the House Freedom Caucus for "holding the House hostage" and blocking Republicans from electing a successor to outgoing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who wants to resign at the end of the month.

Hewitt said on NBC's "Meet The Press" that he hopes Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) — who has said he doesn't want to be Speaker — will change his mind. Hewitt then criticized Brat, who was on the roundtable, and the conservative House Freedom Caucus for giving Ryan a tepid response.

"There's like 15 of you people," Hewitt said of the caucus, which has about 40 members. "The Freedom Caucus is like 15 people. Paul Ryan is liked by 225 Republicans. Get with the program."

"How do you know we're not with the program?" said Brat, who defeated former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in a stunning primary upset.

Nobody right of center was shilling for Mitt Romney 2 years before the election. Hugh was writing a book that was supposed to present him to Republicans so they would accept him. The GOPe called and hired him for the job, and he was on board, shilling away 24/7 for Mitt. That does not burnish his credentials. Then there was the shilling for amnesty back in 06, and for Harriet Miers and on and on and on. He became unbearable about 10 years ago. He has perfected the pseudo intellectual man of reason schtick, but it doesn’t sell any more.

He is an Islamist enabler, which destroys any credibility I once thought he had.

Hugh Hewitt, grinning like a raccoon eating fish guts off a wire brush.

“He is definitely right of center. And, unlike a lot of you here, I know what I’m talking about. “

Gosh. Not only are you brilliant, but you’re humble as well.

Well there’s a bunch of us dummies who have listened to Hugh Hewitt since he first unloaded his carpet bags in southern California.

And we remember what Hewitt did during the Prop 187 fight when the oily little weasel sided with the illegal alien lobby against grassroots California conservatives.

Of course that didn’t harm his ability to land a job at PBS, where the effete look down on the bitter clingers.

But maybe that’s the “right of center” from where you normally position yourself. Who knows.

Freedom is such an overused word, don’t you think Hugh?

“Tom McClintock said McCarthy was fine. McClintock’s conservative credentials are unmatched.”

Tom is the real deal, as you point out. When we managed to get Gray Davis recalled as California Governor, Tom McClintock was available and willing to run for the office. And he did.

But some deep pocketed California GOP establishment players, calling themselves “The New Majority”, didn’t want Tom McClintock. Nooo, they wanted someone better— Arnold Schwarzenegger. And one of those telling us that we needed to get into line and support Arnold over Tom McClintock was none other than Hugh Hewitt.

One of those telling us a few days ago to go with McCarthy was McClintock.

Everything in politics doesn’t fit neatly into boxes for internet forum observers. Arnold won but I doubt McClintock could have won. I believe that was the basic for Hewitt’s choice.

What is basic to Hewitt is sucking up to power. He’s a courtier to the GOP establishment.

Hugh can be a conservative, but he’s enmeshed in the Potomac Faction; he knows the system and its players and makes a good living off that knowledge.

He’s old guard Republican.

Gosh. Not only are you brilliant, but you're humble as well.
You got me there. Sometimes I go overboard and say things that I later regret.

I've listened to Hugh on and off for about 20 years. He has never seemed liberal or even moderate to me. But that's just me.

There are things I like about him and things I don't like about him.

What I like about him:

He's astute, intelligent, an excellent interviewer and an excellent commentator.

What I don't like about him:

He has too many guests on. It's practically wall-to-wall guests. And many of them are politicians. Hugh loves Loves LOVES politicians. Boring. He also likes to interview members of the clergy.  Super boring. I prefer that he do analysis.

That was my reasoning too, but I later regretted it.
