The FBI’s headquarters is falling apart. Why is it so hard for America to build a new one?

A quote from a Nero Wolfe book:

“They train them pretty good in that basement in Washington.”

Because the FBI, as part of the Justice System, is also supposed to be a purveyor of the Truth. And as Mulder so aptly pointed out, from his place within the FBI, "The Truth is out there"....

Well, considering St. Elizabeth's was a nuthouse, it might be the most fitting location.

True, and it has quite the history. Did you ever read The Surgeon of Crowthorne about Dr. W.C. Minor, one of distinguished guests who passed through, years before he became one of the great early collaborators on the OED while confined in the loony bin in England?

The government, and the military especially, has a lot of wonderful old posts in marvelous locations, obtained long before urban sprawl became a problem. A lot of these are falling victim to the BRAC process and there is a danger of a lot of history and tradition being lost. Appropriate adaptive re-purposing is important.

Missed your point.

It is a community box. On our street there are two such community boxes, one at one end and the other, at the other end.

No home deliveries. Have to go t the box for incoming mail.

I guess it is better than going to the post office.

Not all but I hear you. I was always amazed working in accounting at big hotels that we’d pay plenty for maintenance agreements and leases on equipment instead of just fixing them ourselves.

One hotel started to leak and needed roof work. The parking deck needed a lot of work. They spent more money and time discussing the quotes and cost than if they just did it. No long term thinking at all.
