You want to know the last election where one party gained back the White House but lost a Congressional majority it previously had, in either House? It happened once. 1848, Whig Z Taylor won a plurality in a 3-way race that he would have lost if it was a two-way race and the Whigs lost a FEW seats which cost them the TINY House majority they had won in 1846.
I’ll repeat. Dem House majority in 2016 is impossible by any other means than sizeable Dem POTUS coatails, Dem +5 for a Senate Majority is quite unlikely without Dem Potus coatails.

For the record, Paul Ryan’s lifetime American Conservative Union voting record is 90% conservative.
John Boehner’s lifetime ACU voting record is 83% conservative.
If the Freedom group cant support him as Speaker then they should reject him, not continue to play the same game they been playing since mid 2011.
I have no inside sources but the back-channel rumors are that the Freedom group members are scared of getting the blame if the GOP cant elect a new House Speaker, so they caved to Ryan's demands.
But I am seeing the “He lied to us” mantra is being started up already, and no Speaker election has taken place.
