"I don't understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons"

Well, dear, then you obviously haven't read The Federalist Papers if you truly "don't understand". I'll clue you in: we SHOULD be able to own them to shoot and kill any bastard who tries to take them or any other right away from us. Unfortunately, there is an unconstitutional law preventing us from such ownership.

That being said, I SHOULD be able to own military assault weapons, but they can no longer be manufactured for civilian ownership. And to own one of the relics, one must jump through piles of red tape, accept the ATF probe permanently inserted into one's rectum, and pay an annual 500 dollar tax per weapon. The Constitution is not open to interpretation, the context is IN The Federalist Papers. And it was clear, most abundantly clear, why owning weapons of the same type as our own military is a natural, God given right of the American Citizen. There IS no argument, EFF YOU

***I don’t understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons, ****

There are those who don’t understand why ANYONE needs a pump 20 guage. A single shot .410 and a single shot .22 short is ALL anyone really needs!

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN! SO LET IT BE DONE!

That’s because headlines sell and they need precedence. They don’t have much of a problem with a black guy or 2 getting shot here and there. In Indianapolis, we are losing probably 5-10 people a week in various hood shootings, I don’t even bother reading them anymore. That’s not headline news and doesn’t get them any attention. Don’t forget the method being employed... gradual but eventual total confiscation.

Fully automatic weapons are illegally (unconstitutionally) denied only legal in this country to the general public

Fixed it for you.

Preaching to the choir here, but is a sample I post on Facebook on similar articles for the benefit of the non-gun owning people follows - use/add to any part when you post to for similar media Comments Section posts:

A clever variation of the “I am a gun owner . . . BUT” meme. Just more gun control masking as a “reasonable” discourse.

The tip-off is here: “I believe that all gun owners should have to pass a background check,”

In order to undergo a background check, you must register your firearm. It isn’t called that, just that you have to fill out a BATF Form 4473, which among 20-odd personal questions, including race, asks for the make, model, type, caliber and serial number of each gun.

Mind you, the excuse is that they only want to keep guns away from nutters and criminals - a noble goal which all of us support. If that is their real goal, please tell me why, if I buy more than one firearm at a time, I have to only pass one background check, but have to fill out a 4473 for each gun? Can you spell REGISTRATION?

These forms are not to be sent to the govt. until the dealer goes out of business. Evidently the BATF can’t wait that long as it has been reported by many FFLs that the agents are photocopying their entire book of filled out forms. Why, Ms. Cary?

The only way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals is to throw them in jail and keep them there.

I believe that all gun owners should have to pass a background check

This just fries me, it leaps out. It sounds so mommy sensible, so "conservative." What it represents is a litmus test for a person to retain the right to defend themselves with the "great equalizer." Each and every American, who incidentally is granted the right to keep and bear arms in the U.S. Constitution, has to meet certain government-designated standards, otherwise that right is revoked.

One of the presidential candidates has it right when he says the 2nd Amendment is about being a check on government tyranny. That is the primary "self defense" function of the 2A.

She also claims that the majority of people support universal background checks.

Probably a shocking number do, because they skip thinking it through, they assume such checks would only look for extreme things. They fail to anticipate the government stranglehold that would clamp down on each American's access to a fundamental right as specified in the Constitution.

“..the 2nd Amendment is about being a check on government tyranny. That is the primary “self defense” function of the 2A.”

Exactly.

So why would anyone think it wise to ask the government to help them restrict in any manner the primary “self defense” function of the 2A of that which purpose is to keep a check on said government tyranny. Crazy!

************************************************************************

Because it’s right there in the 2a, that everybody has to pass a back ground check.

“I don’t understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons,”

For the same reason that most Americans bought Mauser-style Springfield bolt action rifles after WWI,
and many Americans bought semi-auto rifles after WWII,
and why a lot of Americans bought AR-type rifles after the Cold War.

“and I think they (military-style assault weapons) should be more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to obtain.”

They will come for your shotgun after they kill us and take our evil black guns. Silly cow.
