I look forward to eating horse meat when I visit Central America in the not-too-distant future.

It’s popular in Frace, I understand. People who’ve had it tell me it’s a tasty meat

From the comments ...

Kill this f*kr. Also, the options mentioned don’t mention the one that ought to occur-just like wild cats, fix them, and let them roam. Humans are a plague on this earth as proven by the area of Chernobyl. The animals fourish there as humans are more dangerous than RADIATION!!!

I would favor sending some to slaughter if the transportation to their destination was better. I’ve heard that the Mexican purchasers typically jam large numbers of the horses together with no regard to their comfort or disposition. There are many meat dealers from France who are also interested in such purchases.

These are wonderful animals, but who will keep tending to them if the numbers stay this high? It’s sort of like running a No Kill animal shelter. At some point, you have to face the facts as they present themselves. It is not an easy decision to make.

It’s a stupid law that doesn’t allow them to be slaughtered anyway.

Colorado sheriff opens wild horse investigation

By: Dave Philipps

Published: May 8, 2013 http://gazette.com/colorado-sheriff-opens-wild-horse-investigation/article/1500476

Tom Davis is the rancher
Ken Salazar was the Sec’y of the Interior 2009-13
BLM sold the horses to Davis for $10/head

Davis cannot account for the horses.
Davis is an advocate for horse slaughter
Salazar ran the BLM.

You’d think 0bama and the Democrats are hell bent on killing off all America’s wild horses.

Everyone but the BLM knew what Davis was doing. The investigator’s report says BLM should have known. When choosing to ascribe between stupidity and graft, I usually go with graft.

Problem was, when they made horse slaughter illegal, it didn’t stop killer buyers from buying them and shipping them to Mexico and Canada. I don’t know how the Canadian slaughter system works but the one in Mexico is horrific. The U.S. slaughter plants were much more humane. Also, the horses usually didn’t have to travel so far in stuffed tractor trailers. Fortunately, the double decker tractor trailers can’t haul horses, which is illegal.

There is still a horse slaughter plant open in Texas. Dallas Crown, in Kaufman, is still in operation. Although I think they only slaughter horses for the zoo market.

This law has caused unimaginable suffering of horses. People used to have a way to get rid of old horses without costing them an arm and a leg. Now they just leave them suffer until they drop dead.

I’m sure BLM was more than happy to get rid of the problem. Meat is meat.

BTW, I have eaten horse. Not to my taste, but not too bad. To each their own.

I love horses and have owned them my entire life (I’m in my 50’s) but I have no problem with horse slaughter. They are very expensive to have euthanized and disposed of so I think horse slaughter should be an option. I have had a few beloved horses that I had euthanized and buried at a pet cemetery. I’ve also had horses I HATED get a one way ticket to the Texas slaughter plant Bel-Tex. This was before it was made illegal. I haven’t sent one to Mexico or Canada.

Lady up the hill paid me to excavate a grave for her beloved horse. She had very specific dimensions for the grave and very detailed instructions on how the animal was to be positioned. I charged her $300 ten years ago. She paid it with out even batting an eye.
