Jeb Bush donors try to make sense of Wednesday night
CNN ^ | 10/29/15 | Theodore Schleifer and Ashley Killough,

Jeb Bush's reviews from Wednesday night's debate were universally poor. But the power players -- at least on the record -- say it's not time to turn out the lights yet, insisting that debates aren't Bush's strong suit anyway, and pointing to other factors such as the CNBC moderators and the high hopes and expectations coming in.

The Republican debate had the potential to re-energize Jeb Bush's floundering presidential campaign, injecting it with optimism after deep spending cuts and continuing low poll numbers.

Instead, Bush's fundraisers and backers were left trying to explain why the man they had poured so many dollars into still proved to be such a weak candidate, delivering what was widely seen as a meek and ineffective performance in Boulder, Colorado.

Bush and his supporters' approach to his campaign mirror their approach to government.

There's no problem that more money won't fix.

It really makes me wonder how people that stupid managed to get rich enough to become wealthy donors.

I imagine through some combination of inheritance and sleaze. Probably government corruption had a hand in it.

We have to distinguish between the paid consultants and entire superstructure that wats a piece of that $100 and will act like the second coming of Mark Penn until teh Jarndyce estate (”Bleak House” reference) is completely consumed.

The folks who have already pitched in any amount from tens of thousands to millions must be suffering from some buyer’s remorse. Even if they are not so attached to the money they threw away, John Ellis Bush has become a head sticking out the side of the mountain that non-GOPe candidates are first tying their rope to, and then stepping on top of in their eforts to make it to the summit. His presence has impeded the ability of the Establishment to back another player more to their liking (Kasich, Rubio, maybe even Walker or Perry).

Jeb’s donors are the only people in the country who thinks he’s electable.”

I would suspect that there are a lot of other people who thinks he’s electable, including a lot in Texas and DC. I have voted in most every election since 1958. Although I haven’t always followed the political scene as closely as I have the last ten years or so, this is the strangest and most interesting election cycle I can recall.
