Russian military showing capabilities no-one expected
9 News ( Australia) ^ | 10:17am October 30, 2015 | Brandon Livesay

Russia has been flexing its military might in Syria and the sheer power and capability on display has left Western analysts shocked.

As Vladimir Putin ramps up attacks on ISIL, the true power the Russian president wields has become more apparent.

The latest video to emerge from the battlefields shows a mountain under fire from Russian flamethrower missiles known as the 'Blazing Sun'.

The explosion from these high-powered weapons triggers a wave of heat 1000°C which burns all of the oxygen nearby, leaving victims unable to breathe.

This war machine has been used by the Russian military for years, but some of its other recent attacks have never been witnessed.

October 21, 2015: Battles between Syrian regime forces and resistance groups were filmed using drones by Russian videographers in Damascus

When the Caspian Sea fleet got involved in the conflict, ships fired huge cruise missiles into the Middle-East which travelled about 1500km.

US analyst for Brookings Institution Garrett Campbell said this was a "previously unknown capability".

Mr Campbell said Russia's Buyan-M-class corvettes and Gepard-class frigates were smaller than the US equivalents - Freedom and Independence, "but they do not possess any cruise missiles or similar power projection capability".

The power of the Russian Navy was thought to be lacking only a year ago, but recent operations have given the West a lot to think about.

A Reuters report from May 27 last year claimed Russian ships were "more rust than ready".

But as recently as yesterday CNN reported Russian submarines were detected close to vital undersea cables near US waters.

Commander of US Naval Force Europe Admiral Mark Ferguson told an audience in Washington the Russian Navy had ramped up operations.

October 01, 2015: Russia’s defence ministry has released footage of the nation’s first round of airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria.

"The proficiency and operational tempo of the Russian submarine force is increasing," he said.

"According to Russian Navy Chief Admiral Chirkov, the 'intensity' of Russian submarine patrols has risen by almost 50% over the last year."

The Russian Air Force has also flexed its muscles over Syria in recent weeks, flying up to 96 missions a day.

President Putin reportedly plans to increase this number to 300 a day, Russia Insider reports.

Mr Cambell said if Russia can maintain an air campaign of this level it would be an impressive feat.

"Almost none of our NATO allies could match what Russia has done so far in the skies," he said.

No, I am saying the Russians did not target hospitals, but would return fire on any location from which they received fire, which would be common ROE in a hot combat zone.

Here the Russians take out one building in Rastan. Indiscriminate bombing?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjxjjnyGMsg

They are hunting individuals who are embedded in and hiding among a conquered population. Thus far in 30 days they have done pretty well. Here is a list and not up to date as more names announced today, as they took out in Aleppo the son of the UK hate cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed, and others

http://russia-insider.com/en/heres-list-41-moderate-rebel-leaders-who-have-been-killed-russia-began-its-air-campaign-Syria

As for the hospital claims, I am suggesting that field facilities treating combatants might not be registered with the ICRC or Syrian Government, or thus made known to Russia, as “hospitals”. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) cannot verify these claims of hospital attacks in Syria with any of its ground personnel (suggesting they were not established hospitals or the attaaks did not occur or are greatly exaggerated in number)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyj13kn779E

The claimant of these attacks, the “Syrian American Medical Association” is a reported Soros-funded mouthpiece. Their main source of information, and often quoted as a source in the UK press, is the “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” which is based in the UK. That is a one man operation located in an apartment in London. The man who passes along “intelligence” gleaned from twitter and ?? has not personally been to Syria since 2000.

If you believe the Russians are intentionally targeting civilians or have poor intelligence about their battlefield targets (and that the US does or has done a better job countering an urban insurgency) then I ask you to watch the video in this presentation by an ex-SAS soldier about US battle operations in Iraq in Afghanistan. It is dated, but HIGHLY relevant to targeting decisions by the worlds most advanced military during an urban insurgency.

Do watch the video of US Apaches setting up and smoking a Reuters film crew in a civilian neighborhood, and then lighting up an Iraqi family in a van which came on the scene and tried to help. Then let’s all criticize claims of civilian deaths during Russian combat in Syria

A lot are perplexed and want the terrorists rears kicked after witnessing story after story of mass beheadings and burnings and rapes of Christians and other non-ISIS people.

Many don’t necessarily cheer on Russia, but after our feckless Muslim Brotherhood supporting resident refused to really do anything, seeing terrorist butts kicked by someone is good.

If we had done this to Ramadi, we would have saved a lot of US military lives and injuries and we would not have left a future stronghold for the ISIS guys to retake.

Sometimes, excessive force ultimately saves lives, even of the enemy because the survivors don’t want to have any more of that so choose peace.

Hmm.... agreed.

Couldn’t find the same scene in English on youtube, only dubbed in Spanish.

though the scene applies to the comments exchanged.

Basically, the original in English says: “I don’t have time for this sh!t”...

I researched it. You are absolutely correct. I, as well as many others have this misconception, likely based on the very sign I posted in my smart-assed response. My apologies.

I think the POS is actually being weak on ISIS deliberately in order to give the Russians an excuse to step in and eventually take over the region. This despite his and John Fonda Kerry's moans and groans, which I believe are simply for public consumption, to make it appear as if they have America's interests at heart.

Ted Cruz on Russia, Syria, Obama, 'missile defense', and the New START Treaty with Russia...

"If we want to actually dismantle ISIS, we need to dramatically change course. We need a real, robust campaign that maximizes our overwhelming air advantage.

We need to focus our efforts not on trying to create friends, but on supporting our real ones, especially the Kurds in Iraq and Syria who have actually had success against ISIS."

-snip-

"We can redouble our efforts to develop the defensive weapons that neutralized the offensive Soviet threat -- particularly missile defense, which has seen a 25% budget reduction under Obama, according to an analysis from the conservative Heritage Foundation, and has been constrained by bad arms deals like New START.

We should not only move quickly to install the canceled interceptor sites Putin opposed in Poland and the Czech Republic, but also to develop the next generation of systems that will only increase his discomfiture.

These options do not entail a ground war in Syria, yet would effectively shake us free from the failed policies that have brought us to our current impasse.

These options set us on a new path that puts Putin on notice that the United States is reclaiming our traditional role as leader of the free world."

**********************************************************

"I think it would be a mistake to get involved in the Syrian civil war. There have been voices in Washington eager for us to send our sons and daughters over to fight that civil war for some time. I haven't been one of them. I think the touchstone of U.S. military policy should be protecting the national security of this country."

"What we're seeing Putin in Russia do is a direct response to the profound weakness of Obama over six and a half years.

Putin views Obama as weak, as ineffective, and frankly, as a laughingstock. And, as a result, he is moving in, he is invading his neighbors, like Ukraine, he's kidnapping Estonians, and he's moving into Syria to gain a stronger foothold in the Middle East."

Ted Cruz:
"We need a coherent plan to address both the specific crisis in Syria and the challenge posed more broadly by Putin's resurgent Russia.

The good news is that America still has options, if our leaders can summon the will to exercise them.

For starters, in Syria we can't double down on the failed strategies that have given Putin his opportunity to intervene.

We are now two years out from President Obama's proposed intervention after al-Assad used chemical weapons against his own people. ..."

"According to the Washington Free Beacon, Russia's nuclear arsenal how has over 100 nuclear warheads above the limit set by the treaty.

Since the treaty was launched, Russia has deployed 111 new nuclear warheads, bringing its total number of deployed warheads to 1,648. That treaty limit is 1,550 warheads — a number that must be reached in 2018.

Comparatively, the numbers of U.S. nuclear warheads, missiles and bombers have fallen dramatically and are already below the limits set by the treaty. Additionally, the United States has decreased the number of warheads in its deployed nuclear arsenal by 250.

While the United States intends to eliminate heavy bombers and launchers, Russia has launched a strategic nuclear force expansion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also recently announced a new doctrine that placed priority on nuclear forces.

If this raises concern for you, you are not alone.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, said Russia "is in the business of violating treaties."

Rogers said Putin has violated several agreements and treaties in the past, and he simply "violates any treaty or agreement that puts limits on capabilities that Mr. Putin and his cronies desire."

"Russia's arguable adherence to the New START Treaty just indicates how bad a deal it is for the United States," he said.

Adm. William Gortney, commander of the U.S. Northern Command, said Wednesday that Russia has read our play book and is "fielding cruise missiles that are very, very accurate, very long range."

Gortney said these missiles have the ability to reach targets in Canada and the United States. He added that Russia has been participating in war game scenarios recently that simulate cruise missile strikes in Alaska.

This news is serious because it appears Russia has no intention of abiding by New START or any other treaty. We should therefore be building up our military and our arsenals instead of depleting them.

Russia Adds 111 Warheads Under Arms Treaty
Moscow warheads above New START treaty limit

By: Bill Gertz
October 9, 2015

Russia has now deployed more than 100 nuclear warheads in its strategic arsenal above the limits set by the New START arms treaty limits, two years before it must meet treaty arms reduction goals.

"New START nuclear warhead and delivery system numbers made public Oct. 1 reveal that since the 2010 arms accord went into force, Moscow increased the number of deployed nuclear warheads by a total of 111 weapons for a total of 1,648 deployed warheads. That number is 98 warheads above the treaty limit of 1,550 warheads that must be reached by the 2018 deadline of the treaty.

At the same time, U.S. nuclear warheads, missiles, and bombers have fallen sharply and remain below the required levels under the New START pact.

The United States during the same period of the Russian increases cut its deployed nuclear arsenal by 250 warheads. ..." (more...)

The New START Treaty: Central Limits and Key Provisions
Congressional Research Service

Summary

The United States and Russia signed the New START Treaty on April 8, 2010. After more than 20 hearings, the U.S. Senate gave its advice and consent to ratification on December 22, 2010, by a vote of 71-26. Both houses of the Russian parliament (the Duma and Federation Council) approved the treaty in late January 2011, and it entered into force on February 5, 2011, after Secretary of State Clinton and Foreign Minister Lavrov exchanged the instruments of ratification.

New START provides the parties with 7 years to reduce their forces, and will remain in force for a total of 10 years. It limits each side to no more than 800 deployed and nondeployed land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launchers and deployed and nondeployed heavy bombers equipped to carry nuclear armaments.

Within that total, each side can retain no more than 700 deployed ICBMs, deployed SLBMs, and deployed heavy bombers equipped to carry nuclear armaments. The treaty also limits each side to no more than 1,550 deployed warheads; those are the actual number of warheads on deployed ICBMs and SLBMs, and one warhead for each deployed heavy bomber.

New START contains detailed definitions and counting rules that will help the parties calculate the number of warheads that count under the treaty limits. Moreover, the delivery vehicles and their warheads will count under the treaty limits until they are converted or eliminated according to the provisions described in the treaty's Protocol. These provisions are far less demanding than those in the original START Treaty and will provide the United States and Russia with far more flexibility in determining how to reduce their forces to meet the treaty limits. ..."

No One = no one in the Obama cess pool which is now occupying the White Hut.

Many knew fully of Russian conventional warfare capabilities in NATO , Ukraine and Crimea, but the liberal fascists of Europe and the USA have them shut right up.

Now its all a “Surprise” to the Obama sodomites because the only war they like is demographhic warfare, a far more cruel form of warfare, which is close to the hatred of genocide.

If you look though...operational sorties...there’s this high point the first three or four days, and various people watching operations around day ten have said that things have been cut back. The common discussion theme is that maintenance and parts are an issue now and they can’t sustain the high sortie rate. Maybe if they had a parts warehouse there...things might be different.

Not always a hydrocarbon. That’s a Class A or Class B fire. Class D fires are burning metals like Aluminum and Magnesium.

I have one of these; and I did NOT know this-->  Once ignited, it is difficult to extinguish, being able to burn in nitrogen (forming magnesium nitride), carbon dioxide (forming magnesium oxide, and carbon) and water (forming magnesium oxide and hydrogen).   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium

Their sorties will go down until their depot is built up. They need thousands of support personnel and lots of material to keep their aircraft flying.
