Donald Trumps assertion at Wednesdays Republican presidential debate that sickos take advantage of gun-free zones to kill people is complicated, it turns out, by the fact that many of his own hotel properties does not allow weapons, even if properly permitted.
Given that the remark happened on the fly during a debate and that Mr. Trump himself, by his own admission, only carries a firearm occasionally could explain the discrepancy between Trumps political beliefs and corporate policy at some of the properties that bear his name (as discovered by Reuters sleuthing.)
Yet Trumps primer on how Second Amendment rights and safety concerns underscores a difficult and evolving paradox for many US business owners: Retail outlets are wrestling first-hand with increasingly liberalized US gun laws, such as the permit-less constitutional carry law that became law this month in Maine.

I think Mr. Trump has armed escorts most of the time and with his schedule would he carry to every meeting/event?
Here in Ohio, if a property owner posts a sign that says “no guns” and you get caught carrying anyways, it’s a misdemeanor and your permit is in danger. In virginia, ignoring such a sign carries no legal penalty but if the property asks you to leave and you decline to comply, than you are in trouble. I think Virginia’s law is more reasonable and should become the model. If nobody sees it, it isn’t a problem so FU and your sign. That’s my opinion on signage.
The article is a crock. I open carry a handgun frequently, it isn’t a problem. No one really cares except some hyperventilating journolists.
The issue in Texas was organized protests involving open carry of rifles since the horrible carry laws in Texas at the time prohibited open carry of handguns, even for permitholders. Texas carry laws still suck mightily, but they were changed recently so you can open carry a handgun with a permit. So, the rifle carry isn’t so much an issue as the underlying reason for the protests was corrected.
Contrary to what this journolist asserts, open or concealed carry is not an issue with businesses unless they choose to make it one. Open carry is still relatively unusual (I’m sad to say) and concealed carry is by its nature not seen. So unless the business management or ownership is hoplophobic or is under political pressure from the grabbers, it just isn’t on their radar.

Not only lawyers and insurance companies but the U.S. government in the guise of OSHA safety rules recommends businesses have “no weapons” policies.obama would like OSHA to ban guns in the workplace.

I think it’s fine if businesses say “No guns”. They may lose business, but property owners have rights — and if they want to say “No guns” then it’s “No guns”.

Because the media propaganda has won and even the most simple logic faces a tremendous uphill battle.
Maine is also one of only two states which allow incarcerated felons to vote via absentee ballot, from their prison cells. Seems Maine gets constitutional carry right anyway.
(Vermont is the other state - felons voting while imprisoned.)
That’s right. Private property needs to be respected, but it shouldn’t be a crime to conceal carry. Guests should be warned and then evicted if not. Otherwise it is trespassing.
Those signs are hard to see I know I sometimes walk right by one without realizing it ....
Well in the debate he said he would change the policy to allow guns carried in his properties. I wonder if anyone will check if he will follow through.
Of course the anti Trumps will check, but you'll hear nothing about it if he did in deed make the change. That wouldn't fit their agenda.
I’m sure his places have more and BETTER security than Obama does.
