Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Well done Commonwealth!
Looks like 1 of the three made it, Jeanette Hough.
Another possibility would be to give Washington, DC back its piece of Virginia—Arlington and Alexandria mostly liberal.
I would not object to that at all. They both vote around 75%+ democrat.
Our legislature has done a good job keeping Fast Terry in neutral. One would think you might’ve been interested in keeping it that way. The state-level GOP isn’t comprised of the surrender monkey types we have in DC.
Mmmm. I half agree with you. The HoD is pretty good and credit where credit is due. Interesting to note that control of the HoD has never been in question. Might it be because they’re inspired to be worth a damn?
The VA Senate on the other hand is a bunch of worthless sock puppets in the DC mold. A few notable exceptions, just like DC. Interesting that control is usually in question. Might it be because no one can tell the difference?
thanks! he’s a friend’s brother; so glad he won.
Craig A. Parisot lost by only 191 votes. Ugh.
I voted for him! Recount? I hope he runs again in 2 years.
Yes, some in the Senate have shown a degree of squishiness, but the fact Fast Terry Flimflam’s agenda is in the wrecking yard is good enough for me. He could’ve done some serious damage to this state, but he’s been stymied... and he’ll stay that way.
+1
“The VA gop: in all the universe, you will not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.”
Did they ever reform the outrageous primary system? Last time, I could either vote for Ron Paul or McRomney.
I mean, WT-FREAKING heck??? No other choices? How could Ron Paul qualify when so many more popular candidates could not?
Next we need to give the establishment VA GOP a badly needed purging.
“Good idea, but I donât want to be a Marylander, god forbid. On the other hand, I donât want to be in northern Virginia, either. This place has changed before my eyes in the last 10 to 15 years.”
Why do you think that is?
When we retired early to quit paying the fascist beast, we were looking at the Appalachian area around Tennessee/Virginia/North Carolina. We picked Tennessee since it seemed that Virginia and North Carolina had the potential to become what we just escaped in California- where the big cities out vote the conservative rural areas.
True, but Cuccinelli didn't help himself much, either.
Better yet, cede the Northern Virginia counties near the national capital to the District of Columbia. Until about 1840, Arlington County was part of the District until Virginia took it back. Giving Arlington and Fairfax Counties, the City of Alexandria, and maybe Prince William and Loudoun Counties and the City of Manassas to the District would end Virginia's status as a "purple" state.
Not really. It remains extremely difficult to get on the ballot. VA is home of the sanitized ballot.
We need a plan to bring in the Hispanic vote. My Hispanic wife is curious as to why the GOP isn’t trying to court them. They don’t make the case.
You have an important point. I believe it was in 1846 that urban voters in Alexandria voted to be detached from the 10 square mile District of Columbia. DC thus lost 1/3rd of its area. The reason for the vote was that abolitionists and sympathetic diplomats had begun to complain about the obvious ugly appearance of slavery in DC, and DC eliminated its slave market. Alexandria did not want to give up its lucrative slave trade, so moved to disconnect from the District. It probably would not be hard to persuade DC that they ought to sue to get back this part of their city that was lost to the cruelty of slave sellers and buyers. An interesting thought. Here is a link on the whole retrocession issue, with maps of DC with and without its original 100 square miles.

We are in the same house district. I also voted for Craig. He also narrowly lost 2 years ago, so not certain if he will want to give it another try.
